Tbh I lowkey expected SoC/Brooklyn Baby level tracks and melodies but from this it sounds kind of lackluster. Lana's released works have always been on another level from her unreleased even Honeymoon so to hear they sound like the Untouchable 5 is kind of sad. Like I'm glad to listen to whatever she releases but I kind of expected more. She really needs to do away with Rick's production. They write great songs but his production is too minimal to give her songs the shine they need. Imagine if Dan didn't step in for UV, we would've gotten a stripped back SoC devoid of all the elements that make it the amazing track it is now. West Coast too. The production is everything on Ultraviolence. Heck, I feel like Honeymoon could've been taken to the next level if she found someone to inject a fresh sound into it. Sigh. In the end she's the artist and it's her music but I just feel like there's so much wasted potential production-wise since Rick doesn't challenge Lana to explore other sounds like other producers. I still have hope for Emile and possibly Justin Parker's tracks.

How much of Lana's persona is made by her label, managers etc

I was thinking about this earlier today when I was reading/watching older interviews from 2011/2012 It really seemed like she was trying to project herself with a more exaggerated image back then. Like with the way she spoke (bold New York accent in some interviews) and her mannerisms. I can see why people thought she was unauthentic and manufactured because of how awkward she came off while trying to adjust to the image people thought of when they heard and saw 'Lana Del Rey.' But I don't get the people who use her old music as validation of her being fake. She's just refined her craft and evolved as a songwriter, just like any other artist. I mean so many tracks from Born to Die reference some of her older tracks. It's not like she started writing about something completely different. Anyways, I'm glad I became a fan post-Ultraviolence because she comes off to me as confident/matured and organic compared to 2012. I feel like she's just being herself these days in interviews, on social media and whatnot. Nowadays, 'Lana Del Rey' doesn't seem like much of a persona to me it's simply a stage name used by the woman we know and love named Lizzy Grant. -
