She literally sang through a sheet of paper on certain LFL songs for “artistic effect.” Including a song that had Stevie Nicks as a feature :rip:

I feel like that alone trumps any shortcomings from this era like what even was that

That's true, but somehow singing through that sheet of paper sounded better than some of the recordings on NFR.  :rip:

LFL is full of fillers and questionable creative decisions but we needed a record like that to appreciate the greatness of NFR, yes we did

Agree, that album was half filler tracks and very questionable artistic decisions, but I can honestly say the same about NFR.

I don't mean to stir the pot, but that's how I feel.

But I’m on the same page about the mixing to be honest. I wish the sound was a bit fuller on NFR and not so hollow on some tracks but it is what it is. Though I feel like the mixing actually works with the musicality of the record this time around though compared to LFL.. LFL has a very muddy sound that doesn’t do much for the sleekness of some tracks. Love being one of the worst offenders. It would’ve been cool if it had a really futuristic, clean sound but Lana really can’t ditch that lo-fi mixing :rip:

Oh I agree with that, I feel like the songs that sound sleek on Lust for Life are some of her best, but that's what? Maybe two three songs? This album aged like milk to me. Norman Fucking Rockwell will definitely age better, but to me the mixing of this album is very questionable.

Okay but where is that earth shattering bass from the snippets of Cinnamon she posted in the past.

I would like to see (hear) it.gif

Maybe it was re-produced like how Fuck It I Love You was modified too.

do yall think that DCMA will boost NFR's sales this week? Like it may go up 1 or 2 spots on BB 200?

It's possible, she went from 100-something to 80-something in the spotify most played artists list  :hooker:

Well I said what I said. NFR is musically better than Lust for Life, but production wise, at least Lust for Life was somewhat consistent and had a clean sound. NFR on the other hand is all over the place with its cheap microphone, sketchy mixing and lack of bass.

Roachella, In My Feelings and White Mustank make your entire point invalid

The Kiisfm interview has been uploaded..

She said NFR has a singer songwriter feel production wise and they CHOSE not to go crazy over the production.

It's such a beautiful record.... like I wouldnt change anything about the album tbh.

How To Disappear was a choice.

i know that album's worth when i like every damn song on it, like is case with ultraviolence. Honeymoon, lfl and nfr... just half of it...

Born To Die and Ultraviolence was her Magnum Opus. In my opinion. Everything else was either beautiful, good or great. Although in the case of Lust For Life....

At the end of the day the record sounds like how Lana wanted it to sound. We've known since Ultraviolence that she has absolute creative control. Yes, Dan Auerbach pushed her, but at the end of the day its was her call, no one else's, and its hard to say how much head butting there even was. "There were moments when she was fighting me. I could sense that maybe she didn’t want to have anybody think she wasn’t in control" but he also said "Her demos were so good, her songs were so strong that I wanted to get my musicians in who I love and get my sound that I get here with her songs and that’s it. I didn’t want to mess it up." Its tiresome to go album cycle after cycle and hearing fans blame everyone around Lana for how her work comes out. "Chucks visuals suck," "Rick's production is bland," "Jack's production is messy" (and lol because occasionally you get "Born to Die was too polished" as well). Maybe Lana's work comes out exactly how she envisions it and you guys just don't like it? That is ok, but don't insult the people around her for it when they have track records with other people that prove they can produce good work.

Very true. If you look at Chuck's work with other artists, it's a striking difference. Her stuff with Lana is bland and boring looking, but look at what she's done with other artists like Bjorn and Jesse Jo Stark and it's gorgeous. I can picture Lana being a control freak and not letting people do their work. I think that's why when it comes to pictures, she likes working with Chuck because Chuck doesn't fight back and lets Lana take over. Lana can't do that with Neil Krug or other professional photographers. The same can go with producers. The album is beautiful but bland sound-wise, just like her photos with her sister.

How To Disappear was a choice.

The way I see it,we have 2 versions of the song now. One is very melancholic and the other is very cheeky and introspective. The album version gives it a very vintage feel, like shes reflecting back on all the years behind her and the ones to come.
