Rank Lana's Opening Tracks

Recommended Posts

I’m whelmed by The Grants tbh. It just doesn’t feel grand enough to be an opener.  Or new enough to warrant a place in Lana’s discog. I’m not worried for the album though, but it does suck to not like a Lana song. Idk.

My title track ranking as of right now:

1. Born to Die

2. White Dress

3. Cruel World

4. Honeymoon

5. Love

6. NFR

7. Text Book

8. The Grants

I don't necessarily agree with your ranking (the Ride erasure?), but I think that while The Grants is a great song, with an unusual, yet interesting intro, and it has a beautiful instrumentation--I don't think it's her most impressive opening track.

It doesn't affect me as much as Cruel World, Ride or White Dress. However, I think it really sets the tone for the title track that follows. :true:

1. NFR

2. Honeymoon

3. White Dress

4. Ride

5. Cruel World

6. Text Book

7. Born to Die

8. The Grants

9. Love

3-8 were all pretty close and could change based on my mood. I must say I really love The Grants, especially how crisp the vocals are and how moving it feels. I can see it shooting up to 5/6 as it ages.

For me it would go something like this:

1. Honeymoon (no doubt about this one)

2. Born to die

3. Ride

4. The Grants (don't like it as much as some of the tracks below, but it definetely flows nicely into the title track and It feels so short, almost like an actual intro)

5. Cruel World

6. Norman Fucking Rockwell

7. White Dress

8. Kill Kill

9. Text Book

10. Love (no doubt about this one either)

It's not about how much I like the songs but how well I think they work as openers.

5. Honeymoon(cinematic but not enjoyable experience for me)

6. Text book

7. Love

8. NFR(it's good but not my thing)

9. White dress(the voice scared me I never repay it till now)

had to relisten to text book for the first time since that album came out.  unless the rest of Ocean Blvd is really good and requires full album listens, i have a feeling the grants is not gonna get any more plays from me.  but these top 4 i could listen to all day every day.
