So I read online that apparently North Korea killed an official that violated the quarantine put in place.

I would definitely recommend reading the article btw.

i got an email from one of my senators an hour ago.

Dear Ms. [redacted] ,

Public health experts recommend preparedness over panic when it comes to the coronavirus. Right now, the coronavirus is mainly overseas, but in our interconnected world, experts predict we will see it spread in the U.S.

Here's what you can do: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people take cautionary steps such as getting a flu vaccine, regularly washing your hands and taking everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs, stockpiling three days' worth of food and water as you would for any potential disaster, and seeking medical care if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms. More information from the CDC about the coronavirus can be found at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/summary.html.

Here's my concern: I don't think that the President is acting aggressively enough to prepare for the coronavirus. Thankfully, there's still time for him to take the following steps:

  • Support upwards of $8 billion in immediate emergency funding for the CDC, state public health agencies, and vaccine research;
  • Appoint a scientist or public health professional as the point-person to lead its response;
  • Get functioning and accurate testing kits to [redacted] and other states; and
  • Reverse his approval of junk health insurance plans that do not cover coronavirus testing and other needed health services.

I am hopeful that the President will work with Congress in a bipartisan fashion on these steps because potential epidemics, like the coronavirus, affect not only public health but also our economic activity with the rest of the world. Now is the time to prepare rather than wait, and you can be assured I will keep up my efforts to respond to this public health threat.

I am sorry to give you the bad news DaisyFreshWitch, but there are already infected people with this virus inside the USA.

If proper procedures have been taken, the virus may not spread to other locations.

As for the " $ 8 billion in immediate emergency funding for the CDC",  that seems to be too little. More money has been invested over

the years to find a cure for cancer and AIDS and people are still dying from those viruses   :facepalm:

My local pharmacy here in Europe has run out of face-masks.   :facepalm:

 I have to use cotton balls up my nose. I´m staying inside the house until Christmas day, just to be safe.

maybe it's ignorant of me but i'm not scared of the coronavirus at all, there's a case one state over from me. also cancer isn't a virus :)

The USA will fuck this up for everyone else I can feel it

There's meant to be a shitton of unreported cases there

And a virus specialist who had a ton of interviews scheduled had them all cancelled and was contacted by the administration to not speak without having them approve what he says. It's not a deadly disease if you're relatively healthy but as a new disease and one that can be deadly for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions, this is quite scary. We don't know how fast it can mutate either. We're going to need a lot of brave specialists in the US to work against the administration to get the word out. Look up "pandemic bonds world bank wall street" if you need a hint as to why this staying minimal is good for Trump.

An upside is that the virus is weak and dies in relatively low/high temps, e.g. 25/26 degrees C.
