Share Your Own Poetry

Recommended Posts

Okay this might flop but i just thought i'd make a thread dedicated to poetry and i wanted to share some of my own that i recently wrote.

I'm currently going through a painful fucking breakup as some of you may know and I've had this sudden urge to write poems.

I've written some stuff in the past but nothing solid, i'm really enjoying it and it's helped me cope through the pain a lot.

I've had a lot of emotions and inspiration so this all felt so right.

I've written four poems so far in the last few days.

I hope you like them :)

Also please feel free to share some of your own poetry too!

I'd love to hear some of it

I love you guys very much

and i'm thankful for this forum everyday.

Also you can follow me on instagram for future poems

I'm quite intrigued so I'll definitely read them later when I'm more free. I love that it's written down on paper and the handwriting is beautiful. Thank you for sharing

Just finished reading them. The honesty and the rawness of the poems are very captivating. They capture something special. Very gentle yet powerful . "Bread and Oranges", "Sanguinolency" and "Always Lovely" are my favourites, especially the last two pages of "Always Lovely". The incorporation of Lana's poetry is lovely as well as I believe it's quite underappreciated among her fans :flutter:

Thank you so much for reading <3 it's funny because i feel like i barely even scratched the surface on some of them, i guess i could go into more detail but for the sake of the poem i felt like its better if less is more, and yeah i felt a little weird by just putting lana's words into the first poem but i just love her quote on "not everyones nature being golden and green" - i really admire how she proudly admits her gentle nature and isn't afraid of being vulnerable and loving, i felt i shouldnt copy but i relate so much to her words so i just had to use it :trisha:

And yeah i think sanguinolency and always lovely are my favourites :)

actually sanguinolency i wrote because he had a fetish for blood

hi! so I don't write poems often but I felt a bit inspired by @Terrence Loves Me amazing poems

don't judge me too hard okay hahaha

also I hope the lines aren't getting cut off on mobile

"My bedroom"

Spoiler

My bedroom •

The sun sets sometimes

Curtains closed

The clock ticks,           ticks again

Do I know this space?

An easy breath

The air has done it before

I know this room, it’s mine

It’s me

I left my heart a long time ago

It’s beating,

Ticking inside that clock stuck to the wall

I’ve tried

It won’t come off,

But I never wanted my heart back anyway

The day won’t start for a while

Monday, noon

Winters past whisper through my head

My summer is safe with you

You, hurrying to get flowers, somewhere

Outside these solid walls

On the surface of the sun maybe or

The streets of your hometown

The garden is closing up for the day

Now, it’s only me and that beating clock

I don’t know the other things in my room yet

Maybe I’ll meet them just a bit later

Time flies,

Plunges           and sinks

Into the dark whistling water below

My heart tells me it’s Friday, afternoon

The day must be starting soon

Opening the curtains,

Peering through the window

A slice of the sun is still left on the horizon

You, dancing on the surface, podium shrinking

Stars coming out to view your performance

I think my clock is broken

This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing, i love the line "my summer is safe with you" im sat here in my bedroom right now and the sun is going down and i was just feeling a little emotional, the parts about being stuck in your bedroom really hit home, i also like the part about the person hurrying to get flowers, it's simple things like that which i find so lovely and beautiful, keep writing i'd love to hear more :xcry::kiss:

"Upon the shores of death"

upon the shores of death

i broke free of the keeper's ship

and delve into the river styx

i became stronger for having suffered

and weaker for wasting life

i swam for three days time

though it felt as if a year

until i came across

a merchant at a pier

who offered a bargain

"for you to return to life

all i need is your soul"

i hesitated and he laughed

"come, now. you can get anywhere on

Earth without a soul."

I  made the deal and i got everything i could ever wish for

and wanted for no physical thing.

the price was it meant nothing.

far better to die a soul

than to live as a ghost

(first, i don't feel like i'm a good poet... actually i'm rarely writing poetry and lyrics. maybe i should pick up that habit again)

these days i got a prompt to write "as the stars were my only friends". and that's how i felt in 2020 - through the windows, looking at the night skies; or through my screens, hollywood stars.

To find out, let's drive, darling. Drive crazy, my love:heart:

omg i love that this thread didn't flop cus i really thought it would <3 everyones poems are really gorgeous, do ya'll sometimes find it hard to distinguish the poetry from the rhyming? like sometimes i feel i over rhyme to the point that it feels like im writing a rap song or something :toofloppy: i really do like to rhyme though, its really hard not to

Sometimes the rhymes help create a "melody" or a flow which helps to read through the poem more easily. However I personally don't care if there is a rhyme or not as long as it makes sense cause sometimes people will try too hard to find a rhyme and in the end the whole poem doesn't make sense unless that's what you're going for. I've read reviews of Violet that say the poems feel clunky, amateur and don't have a particular flow to follow. And I agree with those statements but that's what I enjoy about Lana's poems. She shares her thoughts the way they are in her head. To some poets rhymes come naturally while writing and that's amazing. I hardly write with rhymes cause I don't have that talent to come up with one on the spot so in the end I just put whatever is appearing inside my head. :toofunny:

almost all of my poetry is freeform bc i'm scared of rhyming. i'm worried i don't understand rhyming schemes very well

rhyming is hard but it sort of challenges me to increase my vocabulary. i wish rhymes weren't so overrated.

when i'm studying the story of poetry here in brazil, we had the "perfect sonnet with flawless rhymes" form put in a pedestal during parnasianism; and i love it that, during modernism, the writers let their thoughts more freely without caring too much about prosody. my favorite poems from carlos drummond de andrade are just like that. the neoconcrete poems are also always so creative and fun to read :flutter:

"It's Not You"

It’s not that you left me

It’s that you forgot

The taste of my skin (peachy)

The torment of my thoughts

That made me a better lover you said

Haunted but determined for some sweet refuge

In You.

I found Heaven

It’s not that you loved me

It’s that you felt power

When you’d bend me and break me

Pull me undone and apart

With kisses with bruises

It mattered not

In You.

I found Hell.

In You.

I found.

That heaven and hell are the same place and time.

Always with You.

Now. Without You.

I know neither and yet I know peace.

It's not heaven but atleast it's not You.
