For Free (with Zella Day & Weyes Blood)

Recommended Posts

[Zella Day]
I slept last night in a good hotel
I went shopping today for jewels
The wind rushed around in the dirty town
& the children let out from the schools
I was standing on a noisy corner
Waiting for the walking green
Across the street he stood
& he played real good
On his clarinet for free

[Lana Del Rey]
Now me, I play for fortunes
& those velvet curtain calls
I got a black Limousine and two gentlemen
Who escort me through these halls
& I'll play if you got the money
Or if you're a friend to me
But the one man band
By the quick lunch stand
He was playing real good for free

[Weyes Blood]
Nobody stopped to hear him
Though he played so sweet and high
They knew he had never been on their TV
So they passed his music by
I meant to go over and ask for a song
Maybe put on a harmony
I heard his refrain
As the signal changed
He was playing real good for free

The way y'all pay this cover dust :oprah3:

so before the album released I used to listen to the original version of "For Free" since Lana performed it live at the concert I went to and ever since then I was skeptical as to how Lana would include it on the album (and she had turned it into a trio version from the Hollywood Ball). I used to listen to Joni's version religiously and after Chemtrails I didn't go back to the original until a few days ago and I must say: Lana outdid Joni. Dividing the verses to three singers makes so much sense and if anything it's a testament to her genius and how she always ALWAYS brings something new to her renditions of songs. Stop paying this song dust it's literally amazing I know Joni is proud of her.
