Question about Sweet Carolina & its interpretation:

  Reveal hidden contents

Okay, is this the same interpretation everyone else had from SC?

Throughout the track, Lana says the song itself is for when the child—Chuck’s daughter Phoenix—has “the baby blues.” Lana then lists scenarios that the child would potentially get the blues from—such as the child’s future “stupid boyfriend” Kevin that’s obsessed with crypto, for example (NFR vibes lol).

She then evokes imagery for what the child’s life might look like in the future: pink slippers, her father Jason powerwashing the house, and things potentially going wrong but having the song (and knowing she’s loved) regardless

Actually, this is exactly what I got from it too, but I've seen people post some different interpretations that seem logical as well.

do we think Lanas friday performance is going to be actually live or pre recorded

her team is in new york but i think they're going to film it there and pre record it (and i also don't really believe these "live" shows are actually live so there's that)

It could be pre-recorded since we saw that video someone on her team posted of a performance being recorded a few weeks back, but Byron (Lana's pianist) is in New York right now, so it might end up being live or just pre-recorded there instead

Spoiler

also, if this interpretation is possible, I think Lana basically saying, “Don’t worry about writing a letter to your Aunt Lana (or whatever she’ll be called)—just know I’m here,” is so cute.

I love the idea of it being a message for Chuck, too; it’s such a sweet sentiment for a younger sister taking on motherhood

I mean, late night tv shows don’t actually claim to be live (bc they’re not - except for SNL)

I haven't been able to keep up with the thread lately but has it been discussed that

three songs mention cruel world

WW - i wouldn't know how cruel the world was

CB - it's a cruel, cruel world

Nectar - what cruel world is this?

if it signifies a theme in these songs it would make sense why she ended up picking CB and Nectar as the outtakes that would make the cut

also is CB about her mommy'ing her man?

ahh, anyways i'm really enjoying the album

I thought I saw someone mention this but can’t find the reply:

I don’t really care a ton about his opinions, but I’m really interested to see Anthony Fantano’s thoughts on this record given his wildly varying responses to Lana’s discography.

spoiler:

Spoiler

After watching his past critiques on Lana’s music, I think he might give it a 6 or light 7. A lot of stylistic choices he’s criticized in the past seem more apparent on this record, but we’ll see!

My guess is that he’ll enjoy Thunder/VFR but hate Beautiful and Dealer. I think he responded fairly positively to the triple singles, too

Ooh, I like this interpretation too! This might make more sense considering the iPhone 11 line. Then again, maybe she was just trying to be campy or something lol.

The main thing that confuses me with this interpretation would be the part about her boyfriend being Kevin despite being with Phoenix’s father for a while? I’m really not sure what I think now!

Spoiler

I think that whole verse is just a series of sweet little inside jokes between them all, and the “fuck you kevin” part doesn’t have anything to do w chucks bf

I would say Cherry Blossom is more of a lullaby to anyone who feels lost and alone than it is for one specific man. Obviously she's singing from a place of intimacy so I could imagine that she had her future child in mind when writing it or something equally personal, but I think the sentiment applies to anyone who needs someone to lean on.
