Blue Banisters - Pre-Release Thread: OUT October 22nd, 2021

Recommended Posts

OMG. The clownery. My flop country is going into restrictions where you can't leave home after 8 pm which means tomorrow is the last day I can listen to this album driving in a car with my boyfriend. This happening the first time I decided not to listen to leaked Lana album.:flop: The way I ran to the D site seconds after I got the news. Will have my first listen now.

confession: i was never a big fan of nectar of the gods

Spoiler

I always thought it was a bit boring :prettyhurts: I was excited to have it on the record bc I thought she was going to rework it a little bit and give it a more "Blue Banisters" sound... same with CB and Living Legend. I don't get why she would want to leave those 3 intact when they clearly sound unfinished/old and a bit more production/instruments would make them outstanding tbh. I love LL to death so I'm not that mad at that one remaining the same because I just KNOW this bitch would scrap the wawawawaaaaaas

Spoiler

Tbh the album would've been just fine without 'Nectar of the Gods' and 'Cherry Blossom' like both of these could've been swapped for 'UFB' and 'Roses Bloom'. :true:

I've been checking Colbert's performances and a lot are just prerecorded :icant:

Maybe that's the "MV" we saw in Sheridan stories.

That's my bet... Singing Blue Banisters or Arcadia.

I’m pretty sure she’ll perform the title track since it’s the album’s release date, but I could be wrong. I’d love for it to be Thunder if not, though.

Okay so I have something to say.

I don’t have any idea how next album is gonna sound like.
I love the fact that Lana is experimenting with her vocals on that track and hopefully she will continue   this.
Allegedly Mike Dean is a main producer of LDR9 and Lana asked Kali Uchis for collab lol so maybe more mainstream album ? Or something like Wildflower Wildfire

Spoiler

Manifesting grunge album with The Neighbourhood collab :gasp:

Love Nectar but pretty much hate I Talk To Jesus, which is wildly unpopular here. I’m fucking glad she left that one out of BB.

How are you guys ranking this album? It's hard for me to even pick a least favorite because they're all so good.

My rating is that way for now - But nothing prevents it from changing over time.

Spoiler

Blue Banisters Album Rating:

1) Text Book
2) Black Bathing Suit
3) If You Lie Down With Me
4) Wildflower Wildfire
5) Blue Banisters
6) Violet for Roses
7) Beautiful

8) Dealer - I liked the leaked version better - She seems more angrier. Is it a demo or what? 🤔 I would probably be in my top 3 if I had kept the most "aggressive tone".
9) Arcadia
10) Sweet Carolina
11) Thunder -
The album version is good, but it has lost that indie rock spark. So, a lower rating than it probably would have for me, because this is one of my favorite Lana songs.
12) Cherry Blossom *
13) Living Legend *
14) Nectar of the Gods *

* I like these songs, but I really expected them to be reworked.
15) Interlude - The Trio - I thought it would make sense in the context of the album, but I'm struggling with that idea.

Albums Rating:

1) Ultraviolence
2) NFR
3) Honeymoon
4) Blue Banisters
5) Paradise
6) BTD
7) Chemtrails
8) LFL

I actually really disagree re: NOTG. Melodically it’s really cute and quickly catchy but the lyricism is really subpar when compared with the triple singles + Arcadia + BBS + VFR + SC, etc.

Actually that’s my biggest issue with this album and the reason it isn’t gelling immediately for me like her previous albums did: there’s a clear discrepancy between the outtakes and the rest of the album, lyrically speaking - and it’s kinda off putting. In 1/2 of the album she’s doing sung poetry with experimental production (by her standards) and in the outtakes it feels like 2013/2014 Lana all over again and it doesn’t make any sense.

I really like BB and I think it’ll be a huge grower but it’s far from being her most consistent, congruent work. Even Chemtrails was more cohesive lyrically speaking.

Spoiler

I personally disagree on the old songs! I wrote about it yesterday so sorry for repeating but I actually think the shift in the final few tracks make a lot of sense.

Wildflower Wildfire is like reaching the climax of the album and thinking that she's achieved what she says, but it's a false declaration. After we've been on this slightly chaotic journey up until that song going through her ups and downs, she finally declares that she'll no longer burn and instead remain calm like a wildflower, but then there's this big drop in Nectar of the Gods, which has a different vibe from the rest of the album. I don't find this song cute at all, I find it so deeply sad. It's like she's slipped into this realization that she does need the fire that she's trying so hard to move away from, because without it she's at a standstill and she doesn't know where to go.

Living Legend shows her admiring this person of inspiration as she struggles with her own guilt, never meaning to be bad or unwell, but she couldn't help it. Then we get those amazing electric guitar vocals at the end, which brings back some of the fire and chaotic energy from the rest of the album that she recently put to rest. For me, it's like a realization that she really is both a wildflower and a wildfire, stuck between heaven and hell, but if she focuses on those that fulfil her, she can get closer to peace, which is further driven home in Cherry Blossom, and then Sweet Carolina, which is the most simply joyful song on the whole album.

I think that in Beautiful she kind of redefines her search for happiness, which she's been singing about her whole career. Beautiful seems to show that happiness doesn't exist without sadness too, and she doesn't need to escape her blue emotions, because she can turn them into something beautiful. I think the final few tracks revisit this concept and we see her actually experiencing true happiness by the end of the album, through her love and dedication to her family.
