I posted about in the Text Book thread, but I'm too floored by it for it to go unnoticed lol.

Text Book is actually far more layered than I initially realized. There is the obvious distinction between herself and Sean in terms of where they may stand on certain sociopolitical and/or human rights issues that is used as a backdrop for the dissolution of their relationship – but I am realizing that there are nods to the karmic family lineage that she keeps referring to peppered throughout the song. I think there is a level of genealogical ill situated in a historical and racial context that underlies this song, too (think about the track’s declaration to “rewrite history”, nods to the Black Lives Matter movement, and references to "Ol' Man River").

It is brilliant how she manages to create a lyrical and thematic interplay between the end of a committed relationship, reparations of historical family karma, public infamy, and strained parental relations.

dealer has a star next to it on apple music- anyone know if that means they’re making it a single? or it’s just being streamed a lot

  Hide contents

also i haven’t spoken here in so long :trisha: I didn’t want any spoilers from the leak and my grandpas funeral was on release day so i’ve been MIA. thank god for this album it’s beautiful

It means it's getting a lot of streams and it's one of the most popular songs on the album

So true!! Must read your song/album analysis if you haven’t posted it already. Have you written the entire thing or only Text Book so far? :stareney2:

I’m working on a thing that pieces it all together, but I just did that little thing about Text Book because I was so excited about it :lolliney:

I gotta admit i miss that weird synth from the leaked version for dealer.

im thinking if she were to release videos she'd probably just release them w no announcement like hope, or we'd have to wait a longer time post covers album.

i actually think this just might be my most favorite Lana record. undoubtedly actually. the yellow cover's been growing so much on me, it just connects and for me at least, reps the overall feel of the record.

i think intuitively, listening to the album the first few times i already got how things connected and it was just so powerful, and what's better about it is that the music on this one just seems like it was made for some kind of eternity, it has a feel of being eternal. it's gentle, it's flowing, but still leaves a kind of imprint.

i'd love some more music from Lana ofc, but I think it'd be alright if this was her last album as her own artist/ Lana Del Rey. It feels like she's already said all that she's wanted to say with her career (at least so far?). the point is, the album's strangely contenting and powerfully fresh and overall, serene.

I feel very proud to have this on my shelf when the vinyl finally gets to me

So I'm not the person who's hippest to youth trends (if I can speak like a boomer for a second ;) ) but won't releasing Dealer as a single and making and pushing a video, basically destroy it in terms of its coolness/viral status?

Regardless, a (proper, interesting) video (that people will want to watch + has true replay value) will never be out in time to truly capitalize on it's viral-ness. Sadly these trends move too quickly.

Arcadia still amazes me and it being Lana's favorite track makes so much sense since it is poetry at its finest as the metaphors are very subjective but not hard to interpret and get, plus the outro's a persevering & sweet "fuck you" and a display of confidence in reference to carry on. It's a comforting tune <3

That bitch ass fuck face The Observer just gave her a 60/100 review.

Damn, we really need a 9/10 or even a 10/10 right now. Why is there still only 16 reviews at this point? :trisha:

This is one of her best – if not the best – written songs. I think it is absolutely one of my top 5 favourites from her ever:cryney2:

One thing this era taught me is to avoid leaks when possible. Similar to Honeymoon, I’d argue this record is best when listened to from start to finish as a cohesive work.

I think my initial indifference toward the album would have been avoided had I not just skimmed through the “unheard” songs when they leaked.

I definitely have a greater appreciation for it now, and I’m almost considering avoiding future singles until the entirety of LDR9 is out:smokes:

i pretty much never double click on interlude or violets for roses. should've never made the album. dealer, thunder, wfwf are flawed but still low tier. so sad she neutered thunder but at least we still have the superior version.

shut up rat

By the way, thanks for that, on the way, I'll pray for ya

There are only 14 reviews at the moment on Metacritic, what score did she get aside from the 60/100 from the Observer?

Thank you! The other one is a 80/100 from the Rolling Stone, so it’s pretty good. It’d be cool if the album could keep a score higher than 80/100 on Metacritic, but it’ll need more reviews above that score. Some 9/10 or 10/10 would be nice

Hey y’all haven’t really been in the post thread much cuz I been going through it. The album is beautiful tho! Strange how lanas music always makes me feel such a spiritual connection to something, like we are on the same emotional frequency. She said something in her live about channeling through her music that really struck a chord with me the other day. This felt like sweet sweet revenge and I ate it all up. Definitely one of her most experimental in all aspects. So many references within herself yet such a crisp matured sound with lyrics that have that same bite that we’ve all been wanting yet over some of the most intimate instrumentals.

intricacy can definitely be found in the mellowness of the record, def not simple. Lana is in her element. Her most raw work imo def a grower in general but I see something so so special in this album. The tears were streaming yall

That bitchass metacritic hasn't even included the Rolling Stone 8/10 Review & Northern Transmission 8/10 review yet
