I wonder if she ever regrets changing her name to just MARINA during her little minimalism era cause Marina and The Diamonds was such an iconic name & I feel like she would get talked about more if she kept it since "Marina and The Diamonds" was such a big part of tumblr teen culture. When I look up 'Marina' on twitter I see very few tweets about her like mostly I just see porn..

It looked like she changed the name to appear more mainstream as a solo artist (to not look like it’s a band anymore) and look more like a classic pop star but it literally made looking up for news, her music and concert dates a lot harder. Usually when I’m looking for something Marina-related I still have to type “and the diamonds” with whatever I’m typing.  

Her full name - Marina Diamandis - would be a much better choice. It would still be similar enough to the Diamonds part and it’d also give her some kind of uniqueness - Diamandis is such a pretty last name.

i'm interested in an organic rock sound from marina not too far from ultraviolence but a bit more upbeat 

 

and the political lyrics need to go i don't necessarily hate political lyrics in general but she's proven she cannot write them without it sounding on the nose and preachy

EXACTLY. i love you but i love me more is actually one of her best songs and she NEEDS to pursue that exact sound even further. she’s demonstrated far too much that she can’t go 2 albums without having corny ass lyrics and i’m sick of her shit lol. she’s very talented and still has so much potential but it confuses me why she’s wasting everything on tacky, forgettable, generic pop music.

Well, I think that she deems her last name "too serious" and she doesn't like it that much. I don't know if it's somewhat related to her family relationships or whatever, but I still remember how she used to sign autographs even during EH era with "Marina Diamonds" instead of "Diamandis". That's also how she was credited on some early TFJ work.

i think i agree with this, her last name is sooo so pretty but I feel like it’s sorta serious and weirdly sounds like, older? Like Marina Diamandis sounds like someone my grandma would listen to 

 

Marina & the Diamonds was perfect, albeit a little cheesy, but I think the vibe it gave off was worth having to explain that she’s not a band every now and then

agreed but also i don't think its that political lyrics per se need to go– i think she just needs to return to strong use of metaphor, story-telling, and unique images that she used to use to express lots of different things...including ideas that are just as political as the stuff she says now. she says it very very straightforwardly in recent lyrics which is obvs a choice but imo (and lots of other fans seem to agree) it weakens the music overall. 

 

i would also love her to work w new people and challenge herself to do something v different– she's got the range to do whatever in the world she wants if she'd just try!
