My top 10 most played for 2022, in order:

constant repeat- Charli baby

Baby- “

all up in your mind- Beyonce

Move me- Charli

Saoko- rosalia

Easier than lying- halsey

lightning- charli

Bells in Santa Fe- halsey

2 die 4- tove lo

Lilith- halsey

charli, halsey, and Rosalia dominated my year but there’s also multiple gaga, beyonce, arca and tove lo appearances. Nicole dollanganger fall/winter obsession came too late to impact the list  much but I’ll bet 2023 has her at the top.

chloё and the next 20th century was definitely THE album for me. i loved FJM's work but this album is truly my favorite now. absolutely adore the sound and the rich orchestra.

and in the darkness hearts aglow - been listening to the title song obsessively for a few days after it came out, and i also have to listen to the rest more. love the writing, the themes and the overall aesthetic.

laurel hell - somehow haven't listened to it much besides working for the knife but i loved the kind of new direction of sound mitski took with it, she never stops experimenting. the lyrics though, especially on wftk... painfully relatable as usual :xcry:

    • Call me a tasteless trashy gay all you want, but this album is everything I've been missing in pop music since the early 2010s ended: oversexualized bad bitch EDM anthem

I've been getting my euro dance pop EDM trashy bimbo fix from that album cause I can't keep listening 2000s dance hits over and over, it makes me feel like a middle aged person who primarily listens to 80s hits.

I'm fucking crazy, but I'm free

Yes exactly this! It makes me feel so empowered and confident it’s great for the gym. Helps me get those extra reps in while feeling like a bad bitch. I’m really craving more high energy empowering EDM like this. Growing up in that era made me think that there would be pop music like that forever.

My top 10 albums this year is probably as follows:

  1. Florence + the Machine - Dance Fever
  2. AURORA - The Gods We Can Touch
  3. Skylar Grey - Skylar Grey
  4. Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl
  5. Taylor Swift - Midnights
  6. Charli XCX - Crash
  7. Giusy Ferreri - Cortometraggi
  8. McKenna Michels - Enlightenment
  9. FKA twigs - CAPRISONGS
  10. Tove Lo - Dirt Femme

Honorable mentions to Bastille's Give Me the Future and Ava Max's Diamonds & Dancefloors, the latter being postponed to January but in my head it is 2022 so.

And I haven't listened yet to Carly Rae Jepsen's The Loneliest Time, River Westin's The Honeymoon Suite and Björk's Fossora but I just KNOW they would make it to my top 10 so probably before the year ends I'll make it a top 15 to fit all these lmao.

i'm relistening to crash right now and i'm debating on bumping it up to changed my life tier especially since there's not a single bad song on the album and it's one of my favorite charli albums :bebe::trisha:

but also hold the girl, preacher's daughter & renaissance are also complete behemoths that can incinerate anything in their paths and crash is just really really good standing next to them

edit: i guess crash is like it's own tier between changed my life & loved a lot because it feels more personally significant than the rest of the loved a lot tier but it also isn't literally culture shifting, this has changed the trajectory of my life and the way i see myself

It's not my personal year-end list, but I went through https://www.albumoftheyear.org/ratings/6-highest-rated/2022/1

and weighted the critic and user ratings equally, taking into account the number of ratings (the more ratings, the more stable the score)

Here's my result

  1. Ants From Up There - Black Country, New Road
  2. Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers  -  Kendrick Lamar
  3. Hellfire  -  black midi
  4. Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You  -  Big Thief
  5. And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow  -  Weyes Blood
  6. Renaissance  -  Beyoncé
  7. Cheat Codes  -  Black Thought & Danger Mouse
  8. Motomami  -  Rosalia
  9. A Light for Attracting Attention  -  The Smile
  10. Melt My Eyez See Your Future  -  Denzel Curry
