Even moreso than Fingertips?

Yup, but they're VERY close. I think this is my official ranking (sorry, I know you love PT, it's just not my cup of tea personally):

"You can't be a muse and be happy, too.

You can't blacken the pages with Russian poetry and be happy." - Blue Banisters

I asked Asmodeus (the demon of lust) to make Miley Cyrus suffer. I am not happy with these new developments. After Miley rips off Lana's aesthetic, she bullies Lana into changing her release date. It is infuriating.

The fact that she didn't credit Miles Kane on Dealer even tho he sang 60% of that song but Jon Batiste is credited for his 5 second vocals :toofloppy:

I still feel like Miles sounds better than her on that song :toofloppy:

I find CN important to understand the A&W -> Jon Batiste Interlude track sequence.

Spoiler

Same, it definitely was a missing piece as many had said. Everybody thought it was so weird to have two interludes in such quick succession but those 4 pieces-AW, JS interlude, CN, and JB interlude are all compliments of one another and provide a lot of insight. I feel like obv AW/JS go together and CN/JB go together but all four together really paint a picture and explain a lot.

Spoiler

One of my main takeaways from OC is how much broader the writing and arrangements are--we may love (or not) songs like 'White Mustang,' 'Cherry,' 'Love Song,' 'How To Disappear,' 'Wild At Heart,' and 'Beautiful,' but there's no doubt that these are not very challenging songs as compositions.

Had 'Let the Light In' been on COCC or BB, I think it would have been a lot more polished and key moments would have been stressed that would have commercialized it or made it more digestible to the general public. I'm glad the instinct here was not to do that, and not only on LTLI; I could see 'Fishtail' going that way too, among others. I can't see Lana backpedaling on the next album or two.

Spoiler

So, now that CN is out... here's my updated ranking and rating. Drum roll....

Song ranking:

Great:

1. Taco Truck x VB

2. Did You Know that There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard

3. Paris, Texas

4. Grandfather, Please Stand on...

5. AW

6. Let the Light In

7. Margaret

Okay:

8. Sweeet

9. Peppers

10. Fishtail

11. The Grants

Meh/boring:

12. Candy Necklace (I'd love to know what's so "Big" about this song. Cuz it ain't no Ride or West Coast).

13. Kintsugi

14. John Baptiste Interlude

15. Judah Smith Interlude

Bad:

16. Fingertips

Album rating: 7/10

Album ranking:

1. Norman Fucking Rockwell!

2. Born to Die

3. Lust for Life

4. Chemtrails Over the Country Club

5. Ultraviolence

6. Did You Know that There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard

7. Paradise

8. Honeymoon

9. Violet Bent Backwards Over the Country Club

10. Blue Banisters

Biggest surprise: that she can still pull off surprising tracks with gorgeous Lana Del Res-que lyrics, melodies and phrasing like those found in Taco Truck, Grandfather and Paris, Texas. What an improvement over Blue Banisters, where I thought we'd lost her genius completely.

Biggest disappointment: that there are no hits on it, like Ride, Summertime Sadness, Doin' Time, West Coast, etc. I thought Candy Necklace might be the one, but nope, it's yet another piano ballad... So, we're third album in without any cuts that could possibly chart on the Billboard 100. This makes me sad.

Thanks
