Judah Smith Interlude

Recommended Posts

Don’t you understand what that means?

It means quit lusting after your neighbour

That’s a heck of a life!

You get to love your children in front of you

You get to love - you ever talk to somebody?

“I want a new life, I don’t love my wife anymore

I don’t love my kids anymore, I’m missing out on -”

Like, they’re usually my age

Does that sound like love?

It’s a life dominated with lust

And for too long they’ve been holding it off

And finally they just get weak

And they say, “it doesn’t matter anymore”

And the spirit of God says, “I’ll confuse you with desires

With what you have and what’s in front of you”

And so, as it works deep in your heart

As you call out to him and say

“How could you do it to me, man?

Help me want what I got

Help me love what’s in front of me

Help me want more of my wife and more of my friends

& help me serve the city I live in

& not wish it away and hope I can move

Help me, God

I wanna be a man of love

Not a man of lust”

But you gotta do that

& so I bring you to this verse and I’m done, I’m done

Psalms Chapter 8

& do you know where I got this verse?

This is gonna sound crazy to you, but I’m gonna tell you the absolute truth

It’s going to make me sound so spiritual, so I’m looking forward to it

I woke up this morning and God said, “check the Bible out”

I don’t know if it was God, but it felt like God

& I had the thought in my head, “check the Bible out”

I’ma to speak to you from the verse of the day

That means I don’t have to do anything

I don’t have to look anywhere

Just look at the verse of the day

So, I get to the verse of the day

& here’s the verse of the day, today, in the Bible

Look at this

“Look at the splendour of the skies

Your creative genius glowing in the heavens

When I ga- when I gaze at your moon and your stars

Mounted like jewels in their setting

I know you are the fascinating artist who fashioned it all!

When I look up and I see such wonder and workmanship above

“I have to ask this question

I’ve gotta ask this question

Compared to all this cosmic glory

“Why would you ever bother with puny, mortal man, or being?”

Ooh, don’t get me started

I can reach over Adam while infatuated

Or be infatuted with Adam’s son

Why are you so infatuted with me?

You’re the star breeder, you’re the ocean maker

You’re the whale creator, you’re the rhino designer

Who do you think you are? You, man

And, and then it goes on in Verse 5, and it says,

“Yet what honor you have given to me

Created only a little lower than Elohim

Which is the name of creator God

Artist God

You wanna call God an artist?

At some point tonight before you go to bed, go

“Yo, Elohim!,” and he’ll hear, “You’re the best artist ever!”

Below Elohim, crowned like kings and queens with glory and magnificence

You have delighted, you have delegated to them

Mastery over all you have made

You’ve made me a partner with you

I used to think my preaching was mostly about you

& you’re not gonna like this, but I’m gonna tell you the truth

I’ve discovered my preaching is mostly about me

Worst track (if you want to call it that) Lana has ever released. As a recovering Christian, this track was triggering. I listened to it once, and blocked it from ever playing again on Spotify. I can't believe I blocked a Lana track  I knew going into the album that this track featured a sermon, but I was hoping Lana would be scatting or something to make it redeemable. Yeah, nothing. Thank you, next.

Yes, it's actually called "Hide This Song" and it works great. Once you hide the track, it will grey out the song title. That way you know it will never play again.

“I used to think my preaching was mostly about you

& you’re not gonna like this, but I’m gonna tell you the truth

I’ve discovered my preaching is mostly about me”

I interpreted this as kind of a turning point for Lana, aka

”I used to write my songs mostly about you

& you’re not gonna like this, but I’m gonna tell you the truth I’ve started writing about me”

then it goes into the more introspective part of the album

the first part of the sermon, about lust and loving your wife and all that, hits so good knowing about how Sean was cheating on his fiancee with Lana. Get him, Judah!

I think it immediately reminds me of Jim Jones preaching which is why I don't like it :deadbanana:

It's the only track on the album I tend to skip, even though I really like the instrumentals in the background

i love this interlude lol it made me laugh when lana giggled at him and repeated “rhino designer”. the interludes add so much to the album as a whole, there’s a strong atmosphere. plus there’s something to think about with the song before this having the lyrics “this is the experience of being an american whore” and “god’s a charlatan”

we’re gonna party like it’s 1949

I think its definitely a "shake up" track, it really pulls you out of the record for a moment. The sermon is AGGRESSIVE and has passion behind it. I don't necessarily think she's taking it completely serious (I mean with all the giggling lol), but for me, I see it tying into a reoocuring theme of being content with what you have, putting a focus on the real beauty of life (the simplier things like just being in good company), and also self-reflection. Realizing that so much of what you preach to others has so much more to do with you and your world view.

Or she just being quirky lol who knows 🤐
