[Verse 1: Lana Del Rey]
This is a simple song, gonna write it for a friend
My shirt is inside out, I'm messy with the pen
He met Margaret on a rooftop, she was wearin' white
And he was like, "I might be in trouble"
He had flashes of the good life, he was like
"Should I jump off this building now or do it on the double?"

[Pre-Chorus: Both]
'Cause, baby, if your love is in trouble
Baby, if your love is in trouble
Baby, if your love is in trouble

[Chorus: Both]
When you know, you know
When you know, you know
It kinda makes me laugh
Runnin' down that path
When you're good as gold
'Cause when you know, you know

[Verse 2: Jack Antonoff]
Word to all my friends
With their rеd flags, their white knights
Their black еyes and their blue lies
If you're askin' yourself, "How do you know?"
Then that's your answer, the answer is "No"
You gotta run, gotta run, run, run, run like your head's on fire
Run away like your head is on fire

[Pre-Chorus: Both]
'Cause, baby, if your love is in trouble
Baby, if your love is in trouble
Baby, if your love is in trouble

[Chorus: Both, Lana Del Rey]
When you know, you know
When you know, you know
It kinda makes me laugh
Runnin' down that path
When you're good as gold
'Cause when you know, you know
And when you're old, you're old
Like Hollywood and me
The diamond on your ring
The soul that you bring to the table
The one that makes me sing
In a minor key
'Cause when you know, you know
When you know, you know

[Interlude: Lana Del Rey]
So if you don't know, don't give up
'Cause you never know what the new day might bring

[Bridge: Both, Lana Del Rey]
Maybe tomorrow you'll know
Maybe tomorrow you'll know
Maybe tomorrow you'll know
I mean, join the party
By the way, the party is December 18
(Alright, let's waltz this out, kids)

[Chorus: Both, Lana Del Rey]
'Cause when you know, you know
And when you're old, you're old
Like Hollywood and me
That diamond on your ring
The soul that you bring to the table
The one that makes me sing
In a minor key
Diamond on your ring
'Cause when you know, you know
When you know, you know

Oh cmon..  it’s not cringy, it’s just simple as she says in the song

im a strange than a stranger line apologist because its not bad its genius:read: the same with guns and roses chorus, its Just simply genius

I think I already said it somewhere on LB but the stranger than a stranger line reminds me of that poem by Apollinaire that goes like:

They pick autumn crocus which are like mothers,
Daughters of their daughters and colors of your eyelids

I always found that daughters of their daughters line to be super clumsy when I was younger but I grew to love it. Same with stranger than a stranger.

i’m surprised there isn’t already a thread for this! reply with lana lyrics you think are objectively bad or that you dislike in general.

i’ll start:

I love you lots, like polka-dots
You're killing me more
Than coffee pots and Insta thots
With every drop I pour

:delish:

Lyrics are lyrics, I couldn't care less if some songs have repetitive lyrics. At the end of the day, I like it when they mesh well with the melody and create a distinct atmosphere/vibe--which is exactly what she managed to do on her earlier records with that type of lyricism.

On the other hand, I don't think that just because a song is more personal or wordy that the lyrics are necessarily superior or better; they might be more ''developed'' but that's it. Some of her wordier/mumblier pieces aren't all that melodic, or have much replay value.

I'll take Lana singing that she's a sad girl or that she wants money, power & glory on a continuous loop, over her waxing poetics about her innermost thoughts, stream of consicousness style, without any real distinctive melody. I appreciate all her songs and I think the songs are interesting from an artistic POV, but I don't find myself wanting to dive into the latter all that much.

let me love you like a woman, let me hold you like a baby

like nah man I'm not treating any grown ass man like a baby please :scoff:

(I know she probably means she just wants to care for him or whatever but that phrase just irks me)

Just as insufferable as NFR stans thinking the album is some sort of lyrical masterpiece just cause she sings about being a vagabond poet missing x, y & z every other song. :die:

Lol late reply, but notice how NFR-and-beyond stans never complain about her earlier work and don't criticize other fans for liking other albums more. You guys are constantly hating on her newer work, and I am yet to see a decent argument on that. Also, what's the problem with singing about "being a vagabond poet", and let me add, a vagabond poet in the middle of a culture and political crisis. What's so different from singing about being a bad girl with a love on the side who gets drunk and high? She sings about so many things. You guys just hate her lbr lol.

They do though. There's a countless amount of users on here who bash fans for preferring her old music style/not being into her more recent output...

Any direct quote? I never see anyone saying Ultraviolence is a bad album, or Honeymoon... but early-Lana stans are always shitting on Chem and Blue and, when it comes to NFR!, the conversation always gets heated up for no reason :wtf3:
