Fair but she actually looked skinnier to me in 87, she just looks more mature to me but it’s probably the increased muscle mass.

Hmm I’ve been listening to Ms material lately and I’ve got mixed views- I remember liking bedtime stories a lot so may revisit that.

I don’t particularly like her albums in one go- I really wanted to like erotica in particular because of the concept but the music itself is quite dated to me and messy in retrospect - like a lot of work was put into the title track and the rest was just dance pop/ house tracks with little interesting ideas….

Surprised so many hate like a virgin because it’s still probably the best to me out of her 80s decade- her emotive performance on love don’t live here alone!

Likewise ray of light has amazing singles- Power of goodbye, Ray of light, Frozen(despite the cheesy lyrics….) and nothing really matters but outside of that all I like is candy perfume girl.

it Surprises me on the acclaim it gathers but Bjork, Garbage and the trip hop scene itself did these sounds 4 years prior so it’s actually quite late to be considered “innovative”.

Okay I’m revisiting ray of light and reliking it a lot more than I remember- my main issue however is this isn’t a pop album. At most it could be classified as alt pop but there’s no big hooks- pop vocals or songs with big anthemtic choruses.

it’s a trip hop album influenced by electronica, ambient music and clearly alternative rock which makes all the discussion about being the best pop album automatically void to me.

Probably her best work though and I’m not complaining as the saint etienne, portishead and massive attack influences work really well with her opera voice on this album.

On another note does anyone find it strange that she denied any reports of Sean being violent with her when there are strong allusions in the LAP album and videos about being abused by him?

she mentions bruises in till death and is slapped by her look alike Sean partner in the oh father video for instance where she is then seen covering her bruises…

I mean it seems pretty clear that he’s an allusion to her continuing patterns she saw throughout her childhood
