Originally it was never about how he looked. I remember the 5 days following the shooting when he was being looked for and everyone was already cheering the perp on, dressing like him in the streets of New York and having joke lookalike contests. Despite not knowing the shooter at all people were already cheering him on and pretty much had a motive figured out instantly because it doesn’t take much speculation to put the pieces together on this one. Now of course, when he did get caught him being a stone cold stunner did thicken the plot a bit and probably help his public perception, but the context stays the same. Hell, i’m not gay, but if i was i’m pretty sure i’d be wanting a Luigi Mangione look alike contest in my room right about now
