It would be in line with the lyrics; the beeping being an intentionally strange and unsettling (all Jack criticism considered, I still don't think him and Ella could sit in the studio and think 'wow this is such a lovely sound!') technological noise that unsettles listeners in the same way the 'ones who came before us' unsettled the Earth. Also I can't remember where but she made a point of the fact that the synth right before 'From the Nissan to the Phantom to the plane' was one of two synths on the record, which makes sense as well because she goes on to mention these machines which have contributed to polluting the planet. And I don't think it's a mistake that the strange synths appear on the most acoustic-y folksy song on the album! But yeah even if that is what the sounds represent, they still don't necessarily sound good lol, kind of like those comedy films that are intentionally/ironically bad but that doesn't make them enjoyable and they are... still bad.
