Well, he's absolutely right that we need to be free to talk about pedophilia as abuse. And free to use pop culture, e.g. songs by Lana Del Rey, as a jumping-off point for that. So kudos to him for trying to make that point.

 

But if he really wanted to dialogue about it, and really wanted to dialogue about it on Twitter   he could have at least worded it something like "seems pro-pedophilia" or "is anyone else getting a pro-pedophilia vibe?" or pretty much anything besides a bold, flat-out accusation. I'm thinking the six-hour retweet was a middle finger to ridiculousness.

 

But he comes across to me as seeking to draw attention to a legitimate issue. I wonder whether he's ever heard "Butterflies Pt. 2." For all its pop appeal, that song is simply heartbreaking.

i really think people take her lyrics far too seriously, we all know she's sarcastic as a person, i'm pretty sure a large percentage of her lyrics are too. like the song diet mountain dew for example isn't actually about the drink. i think this guy was just trying to cause shit over nothing.

Aside from the hula-hooping references in her lyrics, the first thing Cosmic Twinkle Lumiere and hula-hooping makes me think of is Sparkle Jump Rope Queen. Also, notice the long blonde hair...

I think we can all agree that Lana has a fucked up sense of humour. It's like when she replies to peoples hate comments and she calls people "c**ts" or stuff like that.

 

It's like she finds the comment funny because why the fuck would she be pro-pedo? So she's gonna acknowledge it just because it's messed up.

 

It's like you hear someone say "Oh, she likes to watch bondage porn" And then you will joke about it on Facebook or Twitter or with friends being like "Hold on just gonna go put on my leather straps" or something like that…

I'd so watch a T&T marathon with Lana, it's my guilty pleasure and everyone I know thinks it's weird as hell    I don't think she's pro-anything, she sounds like she's a bit into (the idea of) age-play, being a 'little girl' perverted innocence etc. etc. just very Lolita-ish stuff, but not involving actual children.

I agree with you but sometimes it does sound in Lana's songs that her lyrics are quite...ephephilic, as someone has mentioned on this thread. It's quite common [in popular culture and in society] and it's not just Lana who does that. Maybe she doesn't know she does that and just likes to repeat lyrics?

I have a feeling she retweeted it as in she has experienced pedophilia at one point in her life (the daddy/little girl/lolita relationship she's always insinuating) without thinking it through, like a reflex because she related to the idea.. But when she realized it meant more than that she deleted it.

I think she's just got a dark sense of humour and don't expect people to take it so seriously - but being famous as she is, people take it too litteral. I also love toddlers and tiaras because it's fucking funny, but that doesn't mean I approve of pedophilia and child molestation...? I mean wat

I also think that some of the arguments on his article are valide. We dont speak enought about such subject in my humble opinion. I also agree that Lana's lyrics can be miss interpreted. I don;t think in ANY WAY Lana is a pro pedo but I can see how her Lolita ways can bug people. I also do agree with @@SitarHero and @ about her retweet being just her dark sense of humor or just a bad joke.
