The Smiths

Recommended Posts

I don't even need to say anything more than the next few sentences. I consider Morrissey the king of indie, and the way he can write with a somber/bitter yet humorous flair is just so appealing to me. It makes for a different experience listening to somebody make light of their own pains and grievances, and yet still be raw and unapologetically (is that a word?) honest about it. But even the songs with more serious lyrics are amazing because, like the humorous ones, you see the conflict of identifying, managing and articulating such personal feelings and trying to maintain a sense of pride at the same time; but when it gets real, it just gets real, and I love that about Morrissey.

TOO MANY to recommend, so here's some of my most frequent listens instead.

Happy listening!

I went to see Morrissey a few years back at my least favorite venue here in Helsinki, however he made it work and it was pretty great. He also changed his shirt at least five times. This was important information.

GAH, FUCKING JEALOUS.

And omg, I don't know if you ever saw Most Popular Girls in School on YouTube, but that statement reminded me of Trisha Cappelletti and I am starting to cry so much from laughing over it. :omfg2:

"Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" is so dreamy. And let's not forget about "How Soon Is Now?"! Major part of my childhood since I used to watch Charmed all the time when I was little (even though the intro theme was covered by Love Spit Love)  :flutter:  :flutter:  :flutter:

Absolutely numbers among my favorites, a very sentimental band for me. My top three:

YES. YES. AND YES. You know, I think of Lana Del Rey now whenever I hear "Death of a Disco Dancer" I could imagine her circa Lizzy Grant-era, just chilling out, listening to it.

"Ask" is so adorable, and it kinda gets me...giggly...when I think about the lyrics. :creepna:

:yesnod: Just such great sounds from this band. "Girlfriend in a Coma" is another really great song from Strangeways, Here We Come, I always loved the way he sang it, especially the first sixty seconds.

... I just want to time-warp back to the 80's and have a hot, steamy affair with Morrissey so he could slay me in a song a few years afterwards.

And "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" has especially grown on me in the past month.

"Well, I Wonder" is another one that I can't believe I forgot to put on the first list.

"Ask" was my high school crush on a straight boy ANTHEM, as it should be. Ask me to s the d, I won't say no, how could I? :hillary:

I don't even think I could give Morrissey specifics if he asked me. I'd just be like, "GIVE IT TO ME. GIVE IT TO ME. EVERYTHING." :bodyisready:

I wonder if "Ask" was about his first sexual encounter with Billy MacKenzie before he wrote "William, It Was Really Nothing..." tumblr_inline_mnh0gyeR531qz4rgp.gif

The Smiths were the soundtrack of my teenage years. I Don't Owe You Anything, This Charming Man, and Heaven Knows I'm Miserable now were constantly on repeat. Still are, actually. I haven't seen him yet and I don't know why. I kind of don't have an excuse. But one day!

Sorry about that, I just wanted an excuse to post one of my fave gifs of all time & this thread was it. :smirk:

The Smiths aren't one of my favourite bands or anything (I don't know all that much about them since I've only listened to 2 albums) but I do love 'The Queen Is Dead'. Really need to listen to the rest of their discography.

Morrissey is briliant. My favorites are "Sheila take a bow", "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want"  and "There is a light that never goes out". I'm not a fan, but I'm a habitual listener.
