Barrie's album Cold Coffee is streaming for free on his site www.bazsongs.com for another 6h. I think it is fucking amazing. What are your thoughts? (listen with headphones). 

 

I noticed he changed the lyrics to I see her smiling. It was a part definitely talking about his relationship with lana where it said "And further long the way i see us in headlines, waisted away me and then you". Now he sings "I fell further down the drain I’m leaving in midnight I’m wasted away living without you"

 

I tried to write down the lyrics. English is not my mother language so correct me please! Some words i didn't understand i put (...)

Had I not been scanning LB Entertainment, I would have missed this. Is Acid Bird going to release Cold Coffee, or is he still having release issues?

 

My feelings are generally really positive. I mean, he did go a different route than the EP, I think, and I'm still digesting that. I liked the idea of the lo-fi ambience in songs (prepared piano as primary synth sound, minimal synth and muddy guitars, reverb), liked his falsetto (night burns, angel tears). Liked that he redid Mary to retrofit the CD style (makes the original single a bit more collectible?). He also seems a bit poppier on songs, though in a melancholic way (angel tears, wherever you go, pictures, could be alt-indie hits?). 

 

I kind of missed the Art of Horror, which could have headed the album (and the intro for the album would make some sense as the outro for that song). I also missed the Art of Resurrection (only hearable in ScumBag video) that could have ended the album. This might have given the album more cohesion as a "statement-type" album (for me) and showcase more the guitar side of his instrumentality, but my only real agenda in this suggestion is that more Barrie is more Barrie (and I think those 2 songs were on the original track list he released). I don't know if he would have had to retrofit the songs' styles too much given the Chivalry is Alive ... song is included unchanged, but anyway, I hope those two other songs end up later in his formal discography.

I think the plan is to relese it but we don't have any info yet. I really really liked Murder Murder, Night burns, Wherever i go and Angel Tears. And i enjoyed the album's vibe so much. they would definitely be hits. As he said it is a "sad disco". I too wanted Art of Ressurection here (and i relly love Magic me i want the full song. He once played it on periscope and it is magical, but i don't think he will release it :/ ) 

 

As for the Chivalry featured unchanged it is because it was recorded with the same producer as the rest of the songs of Cold Coffee (Rob Schnapf, Elliot Smith's producer). Mary i think was produced by Barrie and Jonathan Wilson. As for Way over my Head and Art of Horror i have no idea.

The album totally slays me. The last track "thunder" is one of the most powerful things I've ever heard in a breakup album. The first movement is very confessional and the second movement is very "I'm moving on".

It's been a while since the last time i posted here. So as posted above Cold Coffee is out you can purchase it in iTunes, Amazon, Tidal, 7digital (UK), Google Play.

The album totally slays me. The last track "thunder" is one of the most powerful things I've ever heard in a breakup album. The first movement is very confessional and the second movement is very "I'm moving on". 

 

 

I only found one review and was dissapointed by it. But Barrie's manager is doing a great job and i think soon enough it will be noticed.

-He did a couple of shows, you can see photos/videos here. There is a gig coming this Saturday (16th) in Glasgow. If you are using Bandsintown track him here.

Also i wanted to say that it wasn't only Riverside that got leaked. His whole album was leaked. I listened to it before it was taken down. Loved Magic me and Art of Resurrection. but the album wasn't finished, in Angel Tears for example you can hear voices at the end talking about the recording. One thing i notice is a change of lyrics in Angel Tears

Interpretation: pretty self-evident. But "To live in a feel" works much better for me and sort of reminds me of John Lennon. Could it be a reference to a song?

Interesting point, but I don't think UV was much about Barrie, or even in reaction to Barrie, but about being the other woman or being in, or addicted to, abusive relationships (at least for the first half of UV). Maybe Barrie "facilitated" things by being dark at the time, but he was definitely not intended as the topic. Also I think she was intentionally shooting for "dark" on UV as a critic-reaction to Born to Die (which we can now understand as her HAPPY album, LOL). Probably Black Beauty was about Barrie, but that's about it.

 

On the other hand, Barrie's (also great) album Cold Coffee, is about Lana, sort of. However, what is most interesting about the album is that it is virtually all about his internal feelings, with nothing much external blamed or referenced as to what went wrong. I also think he still adores her, well at least there's this cryptic tweet (the pronoun "her" is left unspecified):

However, at the end of "Thunder" (and admittedly he's very sloppy on the enunciation of that critical word) he makes it a little more clear that he's moved on, imo.

Hello guys! this is former Nightmare boy online. I was having problems signing in using my twitter account so after many tries i just quit. But today i saw something i thought i should post here so i made a new profile. So Barrie's manager, Scottie Diablo (who was a friend of Lana and met Barrie through her) posted a playlist on spotify with all Barrie's discography, including TWO songs he co-wrote with Lana. The one is of course BROOKLYN BABY and guess which is the second?? BLACK BEAUTY. I wonder why he is not credited though..

 

Also when Hi, how are you? was out, and i listened to Lana's soundtrack i was sure that Barrie was playing the guitar so i contacted him and asked him. He said that he was indeed playing the guitar and he was also the producer of the song (!!) - both Barrie and Lana were credited as producers of the film as well. So i asked him why he wasn't credited to which he replied 'i guess the one name is bigger than the other'.

 

So i'll give you a quick update:

-Barrie is working on his second album 'Psychedelic Soup'. In e recent interview he said it is almost ready. (you can listen here

-Barrie is going on a tour in North Scotland, starting today

-He gave a lot of shows the past year and has more planned in Glasgow. He said there might be a show in Europe soon.
