Lana Considering a Re-Release of 'Ultraviolence'

Recommended Posts

How can you say that!!?!??! Old Money, Black Beauty, Is This Happiness, Brooklyn Baby etc. Is Lana's best and most personal lyrics since May Jailor....

I agree with you on Brooklyn Baby. ITH profits from the mood she creates in the song, the lyrics are not her worst, but also not her very best. It's really not outstanding.

Black Beauty goes on for over 5 minutes and after the half of the length she doesn't have anything new to add to the song than just repeating the chorus.

The part in Old Money where she sings about her mother and her glamour is way too kitsch for my liking.

However, lyrically she has not topped Born To Die or Off To The Races on this album.

Sometimes I feel that Lana really lacks the talent for interesting song structures and mood shifts in songs, except West Coast and Off To The Races. Her songs are pretty straight forward. Combined with all the repetition in her lyrics, it can become pretty tiresome after a while.

I've always wondered... do you guys think that people who work with Lana or even she herself browse this forum? And if they did, do you think they would consider anything we say? These are dumb questions, but I'm curious.

Cruel World: Repetitive lyrics and not really deep lyrics, THEYRE very literal

Ultra violence: Cringe-worthy. "You used to call me poison, like I was poison ivy..." WOOWW SO CLEVER

Shades of Cool: So stupid

Brooklyn Baby: terrible hipster shit

West Coast: ...

Sad Girl: lyrics make me wanna puke

Pretty when I cry: a 4 year old could have written that

Money power glory: Shitty lyrics

Fucked my way: Desperate attention whoring

Old Money: Average lyrics.

The other woman: she sings like shit

Black Beauty: Beautiful

The others are shitty too (Guns Roses and Florida)

Auerbach saved her cause the lyrics suck ass!

The sun also rises on those who fail to call

My life, it comprises of losses and wins and fails and falls

I can do it if you really, really like that

I know what you really want, b-baby

I can do it if you think you like that

You should run, boy, run

Vs

You're no good for me,

baby, you’re no good for me.

You’re no good for me,

but baby, I want you, I want you.

Diet Mountain Dew, baby, New York City.

Can we hit it now, low-down and gritty?

Do you think we’ll be in love forever?

Do you think we’ll be in love?

Baby, put on heart-shaped sunglasses

'cause we’re gonna take a ride.

I’m not gonna listen to what the past says,

I been waiting up all night.

Blue hydrangea, cold cash, divine,

Cashmere, cologne and white sunshine.

Red racing cars, sunset in vine,

The kids were young and pretty.

Where have you been? Where did you go?

Those summer nights seem long ago,

And so is the girl you used to call,

The Queen of New York City.

Vs

Kiss me in the d-a-r-k dark tonight

(D-a-r-k, do it my way)

Kiss me in the p-a-r-k park tonight

(P-a-r-k, let them all say)

Hey Lolita, hey! Hey Lolita, hey!

I know what the boys want, I'm not gonna play

Hey Lolita, hey! Hey Lolita, hey!

I paint my nails black,

I dye my hair a darker shade of brown

Cause you like your women Spanish, dark, strong and proud

I paint the sky black

You said if you could have your way

You'd make a night time of today

So it'd suit the mood of your song

Oh, what can I do?

Nothing, my sparrow blue

Oh, what can I do?

Life is beautiful but you don't have a clue

Sun and ocean blue

Their magnificence, it don't make sense to you

Vs

All my friends tell me I should move on

I'm lying in the ocean, singing your song

Ahhh, that's how you sang it

Loving you forever, can't be wrong

Even though you're not here, won't move on

Ahhh, that's how we played it

Every time I close my eyes

It's like a dark paradise

Don't say you need me when

you leave and you leave again

I'm stronger than all my men

except for you

Don't say you need me here

You leave us, you're leaving

And I can't do it, I can't do it

But you do it well

Vs

Drugs, suck it up like vanilla icys

Don’t treat me rough, treat me really niceys

Decorate my neck, diamantes ices

Why? Come on, come on

White lines, pretty baby, tattoos

Don't know what they mean

They're special, just for you

White palms, baking powder on the stove

Cooking up a dream, turning diamonds into snow

I feel you, pretty baby, feel me

Turn it up hot, loving you is free

I like it down, like it down way low

But you already know that

You already know

Vs

I think I'll miss you forever

Like the stars miss the sun in the morning skies

Late is better than never

Even if you're gone, I'm gonna drive, drive

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

S-s-summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Oh, oh

Kiss me hard before you go

Summertime sadness

I just wanted you to know

That baby you're the best

I've got that summertime, summertime sadness

S-s-summertime, summertime sadness

Got that summertime, summertime sadness

Oh, oh

Falling in love for the first time

Feels like, you know it feels like

Falling in love

My baby lives in shades of cold

Cold heart and hands and aptitude

He lives for love and women, too

I'm one of many bonnies blue

And when he calls, he calls for me

And not for you

He prays for love, he prays for peace

And maybe someone new

But I can't help him, can't make him better

And I can't do nothing about his strange weather

'Cause you are unfixable

I can't break through your world

'Cause you live in shades of cool

Your heart is unbreakable

Vs

Tell me I'm your national anthem

(Boo-yah, baby, bow down, makin' me say wow now)

Tell me I'm your National Anthem

(Sugar-sugar, how now, take your body downtown)

Red, white, blue's in the skies

Summer's in the air and, baby, heaven's in your eyes

I'm your national anthem

_______________________________

You're falling hard, I push away

I'm feeling hot to the touch

You say you miss me and I wanna say, "I miss you so much"

But something keeps me really quiet

I'm alive, I'm a lush, your love, your love, your love

I can see my baby swinging, his Parliament's on fire and his hands are up

On the balcony and I'm singing, ooh baby, ooh baby, I'm in love

I can see my sweet boy swinging, he's crazy and Cubano como yo, my love

On the balcony and I'm swaying, move baby, move baby, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love, I'm in love

Vs

I'm driving fast, flash, everyone knows it, I'm trying to get to you, baby

I'm feeling scared and you know it

I'm driving fast, flash, everyone knows it, I'm trying to get to you, baby

I'm feeling scared and you know it

I'm driving fast, flash, everyone knows it, I'm trying to get to you, baby

I'm feeling scared and you know it

I'm driving fast, flash, everyone knows it, I'm trying to get to you, baby

I'm feeling scared and you know it

Woo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh

I've got a Burning Desire for you, baby (I've got a burning desire) (Come on tell me, boy)

I've got a Burning Desire for you, baby (I've got a burning desire) (Come on tell me, boy)

I drive fast, wind in my hair

Push it to the limits 'cause I just don't care

I've got a Burning Desire for you, baby (I've got a burning desire)

I agree that some of Lana's best lyrics (Off To The Races, Carmen...) is on BTD but definitely also her worst (DMD, DP, Lolita are cringeworthy and embarrassing)

Stop criticizing the DMD lyrics

Yeah it is repetitive, it's meant to be to add to the meaning, WE KNOW IT, WE GET IT!!! :derpna:

Its hard to compare lyrics though, you can take bits of the worst and put it with the best of the other album to make yourself seem right no matter which of her albums you are comparing. I know someone has argued that UV isn't about the lyrics, but they are kind of important if she wants to be taken seriously. Its totally possible to write music that can be both felt instrumentally and lyrically appealing (see: Wish You Were Here - the whole album) which makes some of the repetitive choruses seem lazy (except PWYC because of how she recorded it). With that said, I like UV on the whole more than BTD lyrically. You can't beat Brooklyn Baby, Flipside, Shades of Cool, etc. But at the same time don't undermine some of the amazing songs on BTD and Paradise.

Err anyways... back to the idea of a UV EP.. I support it if she really wants to do it. I don't see why not if she is feeling creative enough to write and feels like she has more to say. I'll be slightly irritated if there's an Ultraviolence: EPtitlehere box set though. I've already bought this once  :notamused:  I'd be really excited for some more Blake collabs and to see if Dan will produce it with her. If not, I wonder how it'll sound.

I know it was only because they said that UV was terrible lyrically so I wanted to show that BTD also have some shit lyrics even though most of the songs are awesome. :)
