LifeisBeautiful 152 Posted July 22, 2014 Love this song. It's actually a lot deeper than most people think, juxtaposed with Whitman's poem. I always viewed it as being about a sad woman, who obviously has lost someone, and is trying to find happiness ie. her soul through her physical body. I like how, in the beginning, the religious members of society (Mary) are praying for her because they believe that's the wrong way to live, but convert to the other side at the end. She tells us her influences—Marilyn, Elvis, Whitman, Jesus, Monaco (the official lyrics in the booklet say Monaco), and the "we get down" part is what I interpret as Lana's creative process or how she copes with things. I agree with the poster who said this song is deeper than people think.
