Inspired by @Veinsineon Courtney used to be cool. I like Hole. I think Celebrity Skin is a brilliant album. But not anymore. Not after TODAY. https://consequence.net/2024/04/courtney-love-taylor-swift-not-important/ I mean imagine saying that ^ about your friend. That is just plain mean. Lana once lent Courtney her entire house so she could recover from whatever the fuck addiction she had at that particular time. Fuck HER ETA: also she's just really, really wrong. Even if the Country Roads cover was the worst cover that ever covered, it doesn't negate the artist's entire body of work. She of all people should realise this. ETA2: also saying Taylor "isn't important" is actual brain rot. Even if you despise her and her music, she absolutely IS important, she literally contributes to a country's actual economy when she tours. Important =/= having to like her music or like her.

having a new female tour manager could change a lot, so let's see how this influences her upcoming shows (for the good )

The casual mention of Tessa lifting her laryngitis remotely took me OUT, that was amazing. I kind of love when she gets real/messy like this and just gives it to us straight. I’m sure there’s a lot that went into his decision, but Pete departing just a month out is wild, and definitely explains some of the stuff we saw on Weekend 1. But damn, am I even more impressed with Lana, her dancers, the team as a whole, and with her ability to adapt. Big shout out to Emily, like I can’t even imagine the stress she was under the past 37+ days, and the final product was incredible. edit: Byron’s comment on that post is so sweet. I love their working relationship!

Before I can even share my thoughts, I still need to recover from the Hope is a Dangerous Thing performance. That had me bawling. I'm sure a lot of you know how much that song means to me. She portrayed it perfectly.. because sometimes when you truly are hopeless, you feel like a shell of yourself... a ghost... a withering whisper in the wind... just like a hologram. Perfect. Quick thoughts on the rest - she looked absolutely radiant. Hair, makeup, outfit, everything perfect. Once she got the opening nerves out of her, her vocals were beautiful too. Lots of emotion on Arcadia. The pole dance during Candy Necklace was iconic. The two songs with Billie were just so incredible I don't quite have words for that either except that I would absolutely kill to be in Billie's position where my favourite artist is not only singing my song, but is letting me sing her signature song with her. What an honour. Anyway. Need to pull it together a little bit more because Hope has destroyed me and I will be unreachable for the rest of the weekend as I have an existential crisis xx

Wow. This is an incredible moment. Imagine singing your song with the artist who inspired you.. and then her signature song with her too. I would die if this ever happened to me. Wowowowow no words. Absolutely incredible x

The way she managed to (1) praise a clairvoyant for "remotely" curing her laryngitis with the power of ~just vibes~, (2) clock the tea on her beef with her tour manager who quit because she got 10 motorbikes for free, (3) thank every other person on her team, and (4) casually drop a serve of a selfie, all in a single post, needs to be studied. This is why I will forever be a fan.

look all i'm gonna say is i know someone who has worked on lana's tours for a long time (at least since la to the moon i'm pretty sure?) and from everything i know she's a pleasure to work with and super kind to her employees... i also know a lot of people in the festival/concert industry are shady, flakey, and can just be an all around pain so it sounds like this guy was probably just an asshole, especially considering her close team (ben, ed, byron, blake, sheridan. etienne, etc.) have been with her FOREVER with no complaints.

I’m OBSESSED with this caption omg it’s quintessential Lana… the random beautiful imagery thrown in there between the thank yous and callouts… until I became a shimmering swimming pool… changing my hair to the color of the desert like I wanted.. her life is her poetry fr the part abt them practicing in a cold warehouse lmao after all this time she still loves to act like she’s a struggling indie artist

I think Billboard were spot on calling her show "perplexing and profound." It was filled with symbolism and details; some were instant and shocking like the epic entrance, others were more obscure or thoughtful like a hologram. I see this show as a happy ending to the Ocean Blvd era and everything that came with it, especially its message -- mortality, fame and loneliness. Lana entered the Coachella field with a caravan of motorcycles, bikers and dolled-up dancers while unreleased "Jealous Girl" played as a trap remix. She graced the audience with her freshly auburn hair, sparkly baby blue dress and an overall elegance and glamour that only she can pull off these days. The stage design, a tall and detailed old mansion with staircases, balconies, plants and everything, was very reminiscent of the Gatsby mansion, as others have pointed out. Her ballerinas and choir singers looked straight out of a 1930s movie or spectacle, while her band members were rocking ties and smoking jackets. Coincidentially, what's also from the 1930s is a tunnel under Ocean Boulevard in California. The "subway" as it was called, went all the way under Ocean Boulevard and conducted straight to the beach. It was connected to the Jergins Trust Building, a commercial building with over 60 shops, fancy restaurants, casino and theaters where music and dance events were held all the time; all of this during the Golden Age of Hollywood. It was a privileged moment and location that only lasted a few decades as the building was demolished and the tunnel sealed. As we know, on Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, Lana uses this as a metaphor for her fame, beauty, fertility and even her life -- Nothing lasts forever, as she admits in many songs through her discography, but at least she tries to leave a legacy and a purpose behind. She held this big Jazz Age party on the Coachella Stage, where we were all invited to have a great time and appreciate an old-fashioned show; as @yourolllikethunderperfectly stated, "Lana is a star akin to older generations—when musicians didn’t spend months training, both physically and vocally, for a show or tour, but showed up as they were, just to sing, without all of the fanfare." It's all about the beauty and vulnerability of the moment. "Without You", which Lana hasn't sung in 11 years, was chosen as an unexpected yet gorgeous opener. Describing a life of opulence yet feeling unfulfilled, Lana begins narrating the story of the show. It's followed by "West Coast", a song about having to choose between love and a normal life or pursuing a music career. She chooses the latter, proudly singing California anthem "Doin' Time" and later explores nostalgia and goodbye with "Summertime Sadness". Having to run away and following your intuition is a common theme in Lana's recent music, most particularly "Paris, Texas" from Ocean Blvd or "Bare Feet on Linoleum" from Violet Bent Backwards over the Grass. By the time we finish the first half of the show, we've gotten a great glimpse of Lana's early career, with hits and favorites from Born to Die, Ultraviolence and Lust for Life. The second half of the show explored her newer LPs, Norman Fucking Rockwell!, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, Blue Banisters and Ocean Blvd. These albums describe a decaying, modern America; the music turns more stripped-back, sometimes only piano and voice, an uncommon decision for bombastic Coachella. She sings "Arcadia" with passion, a song about how fickle an artist's reputation can be and how critics and journalists can shift the public's perception on them. Special guests are always part of a big party, and Jon Batiste, Billie Eilish and Jack Antonoff joined to play and sing. One of the most out-there things Lana has ever done live, she was absent from the stage during "Hope is a dangerous thing..."; instead, a holographic version of herself was shown singing and spinning, reminiscent of her infamous SNL gig back in 2012. A promotional billboard appeared outside the festival, which read the date of that TV performance as the death of Lana Del Rey. She comes back triumphant with "A&W" and closed with "Young and Beautiful", a very fitting ending to this story. ""Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?", an iconic line that still stands to this day. "I know you will/I'm sure that you will." Gatsby was murdered in the swimming pool of his opulent mansion; you could also say he died for love. Marilyn Monroe, Veronica Lake and Elizabeth Short, whose stories are paid homage to in the "Candy Necklace" music video, all faced the darkness of Hollywood and suffered tragic endings. Lana Del Rey pays homage to them and decides to escape, this time in a caravan of motorcycles, bikers and dolled-up dancers. "Burned into my brain are these stolen images," she sang 100 minutes ago during "Without You". "Nobody warns you before the fall [...] If this is it/I'm signing off," she declared in 2019's "The greatest"; she prefers to keep her memories intact and beautiful, avoiding the decay, the demolishment, the sealing. A jazz rendition of "Young and Beautiful" marks the end of the show and Lana waves the audience while brass players in tuxedos and girls with champagne bottles play and dance over a giant cake. The cherry on top was The Caretaker's "It's just a burning memory" playing the background, making the scene feel somber and thought-provoking, but also dramatic and grand like the end of a movie. The instrumental piece is part of Everywhere at the End of Time, an album about deteriorating mental health and Alzheimer; the fear of being forgotten seems to be a major cause of anxiety for Lana, and I hope she knows she's cementing herself as a legend with each move.

so fascinating to read about all the hard work that went into the show (despite the lacklustre setlist lol but ima blame this Pete guy for that! ) She is seriously so beautiful. I hope she keeps this hair color and whoever her stylist is because wowwwwww… she looks the best she has ever looked in her entire career.

The cold warehouse causing her to have laryngitis gives me the same vibe as “I fell out of a tree when I was a child and that’s why I whisper” also I think her hair the color of the desert is a call out of the location of Coachella (a literal desert) as opposed to a lasso tease

I can't with this caption Her thanking everyone is so sweet but the Pete drama and Tessa Di Pietro took me out lol. She really giving us all the tea On a serious note her being sick on the day off the show and Pete quitting 37 days before explains alot and then the mic issues. She still delivered an iconic show and you can tell she put alot of thought into it, her post made realized that the balcony is Kintsugi plss I almost teared up Anyways I'm so proud of her and it's good too see that she is happy Love that she wanted her hair to look like the desert, the color is so beautiful and she needs to keep it for the Lasso era, it could fit so well

“Thank you guys. For fucking everything, Jack and John and Billie for showing up for me -and the band for just killing it and spending months in Sylmar in a 40° warehouse to the point but it was so cold that I caught laryngitis that literally left just a few hours before I hit the stage because Tessa DiPietro spent two hours lifting that cough remotely through her body intuitive skills just minutes before showtime, Wally Crowder for my bad as bikes. Every stunning dancer on stage, including my besties and Alex for her beautiful choreography. My stunning three singers who danced and sang their asses off in style and high matching boots. Emily for stepping up as tour manager when Pete quit for no reason after 15 years because he was butt hurt that I got 10 comped bikes for free from Wally and randomly decided he was more of a stage designer than a tour manager... Never got a phone call probably never will. Still grateful for the 15 years though. No worries – 37 days was more than enough time to put together an entire headlining set all by ourselves. Not stressful at all. Way to go Emily you fucking killed it with grace. Thank you to my managers Ben and Ed for making me laugh the entire way through everything for my whole freaking life even though none of it ever makes any sense. PS please send me an email If you decide to quit this year- 15 years is a long time for us too☺️😝 Molly Dixon❤️ for those dresses, dolce and Gabbana for literally wrapping silk around my body for hours until I became a perfect shimmering swimming pool Etienne and Anna for somehow making my eyes change color on stage with witchy brush strokes of subtle peach make up and light old Hollywood hair, and Tracey Cunningham for changing my hair to the color of the desert like I wanted. And of course, Paul for inviting us. it was fun. I’ll see you again real soon.”

Some of these nasty reviews are making me so sad. To me, Lana is a star akin to older generations—when musicians didn’t spend months training, both physically and vocally, for a show or tour, but showed up as they were, just to sing, without all of the fanfare. I absolutely appreciate spectacles like the Eras tour and Beychella, etc., those are masterful feats of artistry and intense preparation, but I just don’t feel like that’s what Lana’s after. Obviously I don’t know her personally, but to me, she’s more of a songwriter and poet who probably prefers a normal, delicate, relaxed existence (exemplified by her appearing at random garden stores and coffee shops along the California coast). I think she probably still battles stage fright, and I’m really amazed and proud that she signed up to do these two shows. After writing music so different from—and changing the sound of—the industry over the past 10 years+, it’s really cool to see her finally get her flowers as the headliner and do it in her own way. Maybe a massive arena-style stage isn’t the kindest venue for her talents and unique energy, but she did it in her own way, with heart and absolute style. I’m proud to be a fan and it’s not surprising to see these reviews (ahem, Guardian) revert to their 2014 tone.

despite all of the sound and setlist issues that was a motherfucking gag idc, I'm literally floored right now. she looked so 2011/2012 that it was just kind of a surreal feeling to see it. like she had entered a time machine and transported herself to 2024 straight from that time, so I caught myself getting a bit emotional multiple times because I really got to be her fan for that long and it made me realize how time really does fly. the entrance and the exit were fucking iconic and for the books. I will never recover from them and ofc the glam team, styling team, stage design team, the pole dancers, the backup dancers, the background singers, the band... every one of them did their parts so well
