This is so interesting to say post-fame (or whatever you want to call it, if she was known but not necessarily 'famous' yet. Regardless, she had an audience). Didn't she record a cover of Born to Die?
Two things come to mind from all this:
(1) Digital footprint is real. We would all fare better if we got offline and stopped trying to farm engagement for the sake of attention. The Internet can be a great medium to put out art, but keep it to that. The comments in her statement about purposely trying to be inflammatory make me think of digital echo chambers in general; what are our true thoughts, and what is simply polluting our inner dialogue? Your 'content diet' is as important as your culinary diet.
(2) The line between fan and hater is very thin.

The person they were quoting didn't know though. They just answered the question.
As for the missing poster, I'm not saying her editing "or Hispanic" out is inherently disparaging. It's just interesting she went out of her way to change that but nothing else - and now Traleon is using racial Hispanic stereotypes to deflect from their white idol's past race-related statements. Either way, I wanna hear thee biggest fan's speculated reasoning behind it

may i also add:
in her statement she also calls the survivors claims baseless which is so disappointing when that person came out with their story which just takes so much courage to do so.
in a statement posted by them, they mention that due to the imposing fear of the legal action threat they have had to remove themselves from all social media platforms. nobody should ever have to hide away for their own safety after doing such a brave thing.
while the spotify hack did contain transphobic material against hayden. she is disappointing me and other people. i can no longer listen to her music without thinking of all the stuff she has done.

I love some of her music but it is not in anyway a "smear campaign" when its just exposing true past actions. This stuff needed to come out even if it does damage her image. People need to know the morals of the people they look up to even If the person has changed

THM is a Discord server with 200 people. The Spotify "hack" (took place days after Ethel already got cancelled) was carried out by two transgender teenagers promoting discord chats they were members, not even admins of. I actually had nothing to do with it and do not condone what was written in the bio, but I do know it wasn't a genuine transphobic attack. From their own words they just don't like Ethel for what she's done and wanted to troll lol.
If you stepped foot into the server instead of believing hearsay from disgruntled people (mostly Ethel stans who'll do anything to protect her image, even create faux "proof" of her racist past being fake) it's not a TERF server, nor a neo-nazi server, it has no relation to lolcow or kiwifarms, (upon inspection Ethel doesn't even have a KF thread and people were blaming that website too) or any of Ethel's exes, nobody is doxxing transwomen, all of these absurd claims being thrown around.
The narrative that this entire "expose" was some highly coordinated attack by multiple groups of people who want to attack a transwoman for being trans is incorrect, and starting to sound like some form of schizophrenic paranoia. She got called out for dating a sexual predator and people began questioning her morals. It's just a controversial figure being called out for doing controversial things.
With that out of the way, it's still not a smear campaign if none of what she's being called out for is false. People were presented with screenshots, images, even statements from Ethel's ex-friends backing things up and made up their own minds. Reducing her whole cancellation to transphobia and trying to find people to blame is intentionally manipulative but obviously I'm not going to change your mind. shrug

I know Lana told the dancers to keep posting on TikTok. I commented on one of their profiles saying I’d love to see Lana make TikToks with them, and the dancer replied saying it was actually Lana who told them to keep going and keep posting on TikTok. I need her back on the app she’d absolutely kill the daily vlogs need her to open some labewbew

How unfortunate! Putting your name on a letter demanding the release of innocent civilians taken hostage and systemically raped by terrorists! So abhorrent!

Honestly her entire apology had a bunch of holes in it that many people are noticing over social media. First of all, the notion that this was a "smear campaign" was factually incorrect. Not only were the screenshots of the posts she was accused of real, she admitted to them. I do think you have a point when it comes to the transphobia aspect of it, because I've seen a lot of TERFS latch on to this and think that it's there place to spread homophobic and transphobic hate, which it is not, and is utterly disgusting. To further explain, the account that all of the curious cat posts and the "exposing" account (which we all saw) had no transphobic rhetoric in it at all. After doing my own research into this account, it seems as though they constantly used Hayden's correct pronouns, did not once deadname her, and also had been attacking TERFS who had been commenting under their post. Another thing, none of the allegations against Hayden had anything to do with her being trans. Another issue many people had with her apology was her continually emphasizing how it was an attack on HER, and while she did take accountability at the beginning of her statement, it ultimately faded into an essay about how she was the victim in this situation, which I hate to break it to you but she wasn't. Was she deserving of the mass amounts of transphobia that came her way because of all of the allegations? No, she didn't deserve that. No one does, and knowing that TERFS will bite at the opportunity to tear a trans woman down is sickening, but that wasn't the main focus. Not of the apology statement, and certainly not of the controversy as a whole. Hayden used the EXACT SAME excuse/reasoning that Brooke Schofield used in her "apology" for literally the doing same thing (racist past), however half of her fan base (mainly white fans may I add) ate it up and just completely failed to acknowledge that so many people who have the same upbringing as her (talking about being a southern religious conservative family, [and that only because I don't personally know Hayden]) are able to figure out from the start that racist behavior is vile and that is is not okay. Yes, Hayden had to face a lot of undeserving transphobia by people who didn't actually care about holding her accountable, but she also isn't the victim in this situation, and the way she worded her statement surely felt like that. The victims in this situation were her fans, AND ONLY her fans that were affected by the words she used (fans who are poc, incest and sa victims).
Yes, Hayden apologized and took some accountability at the start about her words, but she morphed it into this weird "feel bad for me" post and made it all about transphobia when HER ACTIONS had nothing to do with that. A second thing I noticed is that she's asking for an apology after doing the same thing (racism) twice. "I spent my later high-school years being extremely progressive and “SJW” as they called it at the time, as a way to reject the indoctrination of my environment and rebel against the prejudice, hatred, and ignorance of the culture I grew up in." This tells us that Hayden KNEW that the indoctrination and environment she was raised in was discriminatory, and bigoted. This is good. Hayden realizes that culture she was raised in was full of hate, and DIDN'T want to be like that, or think like that. "I flip-flopped again, rejecting all notions of my former “cringe SJW” behavior and intended to be as inflammatory and controversial as possible. I would have said (and usually did say) anything, about anyone, to gain attention and ultimately just make my friends laugh." This shows us that after realizing how the environment she was raised in, and changing for the better, she consciously made the decision to go back to thinking that way, ultimately for attention. She KNEW the impact her words and actions had, and she still made the decision (after rejecting these ways) to hurt people because she knew it would. She had a RACISM RELAPSE. Changing one time can be forgiven, but going back to your hateful ways is egregious. Another thing, "That was my account, and they were my words... I was entirely aware of what I was saying...I would have said (and usually did say) anything, about anyone, to gain attention and ultimately just make my friends laugh." She states that she is fully aware of what she was saying, and then immediately downplays her intent as "trying to make friends laugh", which goes back on the ownership she claims to take. Acknowledging that something is wrong, and then framing it as an "attention-seeking phase" completely splits the accountability she claims to take. She also brings the group that surfaced these posts up, and although I don't know the intentions of them, Hayden shifts the blame onto those resurfacing her tweets. Whether the account that "exposed her" had ill intent is secondary to her words and actions that were confirmed to be harmful. Hayden claims to have changed her ways, however, fellow artist Lady Kabela infamously had a dispute with Hayden in 2020 over allegations of racism. After reading her explanations of the Teddy drawing and the Dog controversy, in my opinion, I think those allegations had no basis to them and we're only used as a stretch to dogpile onto the already serious allegations she was facing at the time. This tells us that the poster DID have an ill intent, but again, that doesn't matter when compared to the words she used. The incest "jokes" and overall character that has been shown in Haydens music and personality are downright disgusting no matter what, whether they hurt or didn't hurt anyone at the time, it doesn't excuse the deplorable thing that is "incest-play". Many survivors of incest have come forward on various platforms and are deeply hurt by these things. Hayden claims to be sorry about the shirt specifically, however as recent as last year when addressing it she said something along the lines of "that shirt was funny as fuck". As much as I hate how TERFS have labeled every piece of artwork Hayden has made as a "fetish" (when it's obviously not and they're just grasping at straws), the fetishization of incest is VERY prevalent in her earlier work, and even though she doesn't go by those aliases anymore (which I won't name out of respect for Hayden), it contradicts her claim that she's "never fetishized it". For example, in one song, she tells us she "dreams about her dad SA'ing her" and uses words in sexual manners such as "daddy" and lyrics such as "spill the blood from my breast, don't give this pussy a rest, you might all it a hookup but I call it a test". This is PURE fetishization of incest. THIS is not a move by TERFS to slander Hayden's transgender identity, this is a purely factual statement. This is fetishizing incest, a VERY REAL trauma that many people go through. Not only that, but the power imbalances between certain family members is clearly shown. The lack of responsibility and truth to this in her statement is highly disappointing, but not surprising. One of the most disturbing aspects of Haydens statement was the defense of her boyfriend, who was accused of doing some pretty horrific predatory things. The original poster on the reddit page gave concrete evidence to her allegations. Let me be clear, Hayden does not owe us anything in regards to her personal life, or literally anything at all, so the para-social fans the just expected her to immediately break up with her partner are embarrassing, and need to get jobs immediately. OP was more worried about Hayden than "seeking revenge" or slandering anyones character over "baseless accusations" Hayden defending her boyfriend is disappointing, and quite honestly appalling (given of what he was accused of) but not once again, not surprising. She has made it very clear she
does not care about the victims in any of these situations, and although she began to take accountability for her racist past, she eventually just turned the entire statement into a way to push blame onto literally everyone else. Yes, the transphobic terfs are disgusting, but they are a small part of the situation. I do think that those responsible for hacking Haydens Spotify should be held responsible, as that is not activism, it is just purely bullying. On the note of the fandom, and my personal opinion, I think the way fans handled this was disgusting. Seeing white fans speak over poc fans and people who have been affected by Hayden's words was disturbing. Seeing people speak over incest victims was disgusting. I truly believe that the fandom has been built on a hierarchy, and many showed their true colors during this. Many people were so quick to DEFEND RACISM just because Hayden happened to be their favorite artist. I've seen so many tweets and reddit posts saying stuff along the lines of "I'd support Hayden if she (insert horrific action) anyways". This fandom is NOT a safe place for victims of SA or incest. This fandom is NOT a safe space for poc fans, and will not ever be if this is the type of culture Hayden rolls with. I don't think you understand that the issue isn't transphobia, and Hayden is not, and never will be the victim in this situation.

I know I said this before but I really hate that people don’t know what a Zionist is, like people just jump on the bandwagon. Yes banks is a Zionist, and so is Addison Rae. She’s dating an Israeli citizen and has been to Israel. I hate when people say “I wish I didn’t get a Zionist as an opener” and then they want Addison Rae.
Anyways, Rant over. Just sick of seeing that. I’m just sick of the performative activism at least be consistent with it

I think her concerts would be much better without the background dancers and their overexaggerated performances. They only distract from Lana and the actual show. The previous concerts with a maximum of two dancers were better. Less is sometimes more.

It doesn’t work that way, if you marry a rapist you’re still a shill. An extreme example but he allegedly didn’t vote for trump-still trash for the reference to beating up trans people though.

IYLDWM is a fab and fitting surprise for the 4th of july so i def can’t be mad at it
but here’s the thing, i think when people talk about surprise songs and wembley getting preferential treatment, it’s not so much that we necessarily need different “surprise songs” every night of the tour, but just that the setlist has no surprises whatsoever - and by that i mean, remember how pleasant of a surprise it was when PWYC was first added to lana’s setlist? the excitement of hearing that at your show, or, if you kept up with lana’s setlist and didn’t avoid “tour spoilers”, knowing you were gonna hear it at your show? PWYC wasn’t a “surprise song”, but it was a surprising addition to the setlist when it was first added. same with black beauty, diet mountain dew in 2023, etc - the addition of these songs (and others like it, i’m sure you guys can think of better examples i’m a little tired!) made the shows/setlists feel much more imaginative and colourful and, well, surprising! like @motel six said, nobody would be upset with wembley getting a few fun surprises/additions if the other shows had strong setlists, but as we saw, people were unhappy with the setlist (rightfully so imo). and again, the fact that she added these songs just shows that she does have the time in the show to do them, and playing a song she’s never done before just shows she *can* rehearse and add new songs if she wants to…. she just doesn’t want to
(i do still think it’s absolutely fkn crazy that she didn’t bother doing YNWA at anfield tho)

I know dancer discourse is probably old and I'll keep it light since Lana obviously loves them but:
With this current setlist, they are occasionally at odds with the music and this incongruity is jarring at worst and funny at best. I think they were perfect for a song like Cherry...but I see them during Henry, Come On and they almost come across as though they are parodying the song. The songs are, for the most part, thoughtful and cerebral, so to have these women writhing around, shaking ass, or doing overly-pantomimed TikTok-esque dances feels silly next to Lana's ethereal emoting in the spotlight.
They are most effective when: (1) they adopt soft movements and assume an almost ballerina-like form (during Chemtrails); (2) they are relegated to the background/sidestage as frozen figures (during Stars Fell on Alabama); or (3) their dance is contextually appropriate to the song (during Stand By Your Man). Otherwise, the sort of limp and drapey choreography that ends up being a little bit of a pastiche of yoga isn't doing it for me anymore, if it ever was at any point!
