I actually floated into this thread because I was bored just to come and say this.
I'm sure she's talented but Chappell isn't for me. I see the +1 for the lesbians for sure, and the pop music space is LONG overdue for a queer woman in the area getting the attention she's getting, especially when so many gay men have broken through and/or are bubbling under. (NGL I think Chappell is getting the energy/reception that Renee Rapp Stans wanted for her but couldn't manifest)
Aesthetic-wise, I don't really think the costumes or attire or makeup is anything revolutionary though, and the subject matter and content of her songs isn't adding anything new to the discourse for me either. Like the cover art for "Good Luck Babe!" just looks like Annie Lennox from the Walking on Broken Glass MV, we've had stars like Grace Jones and Cher serving us drama since the 70s and 80s, and GaGa was serving us theatrical drag in pop space 15+ years ago.
I think for me it's that I have limited space for music and artists to a degree, and I've already sort of staked my claims on "this artist/band is who I listen to when I'm in ABC mood, that artist/band is who I listen too when I'm in XYZ mood, etc. etc.", and with Chappell, I can't really find a space for her in who and what I already listen too, nor can I identify a specific mood and mindset to associate with her that would make me go to her for listening. A new artist really has to swing it out of the park to a degree to really cement themselves as someone I pick up and stan, otherwise what ends up happening is 1-2 songs from em here or there end up in my playlists, but the support never goes much farther then that.

I've always associated trip-hop with Sneaker Pimps TBH. Her doing that style would make me happy, but I feel like what we got with True Romance and the early mixtapes was sort of the natural sonic/genre evolution of 90s Trip Hop, so.
I'd love for her to do a take on rock again. I know she wanted a punk rock album and it got popified into Sucker instead - I'd love it if she'd get the chance to take another swing at it, personally.

They're definitely trip hop but different to the Massive Attack(RNB based) and Portishead(Jazz based) types.
Of course both of those bands have experimented with tons of other elements but Sneaker Pimps feels closer to Charli personally.

Sorry to @ you sis but this evolution of tone over a week has me in stitches.
As far as the album goes....
"Welcome to my world, Princess of Power" ~ ~ ~ "Welcome to the life of Electra Heart"
Loved that parallel there.
1. POP is cute. Lighthearted intro track.
2. Butterfly - instrumental and the ~emotional flow of the song is 10/10. Then I pay attention to the lyrics, and I want to take a valium and pass out forget about it.
3. Cuntissimo - doesn't take itself seriously, upbeat, fun, camp but not cringe. No notes.
4. Rollercoaster - I don't connect with this one. Instrumental feels like a weird Sky Ferreira pre NTMT reject. (Don't ask me to elaborate)
5 -7 - failed to make an impression on me. Have to give another listen or two.
8. Digital Fantasy - there's something here. I've gotta give it a few more listens. The "tropical pop" ish instrumental is taking me somewhere.
9/10 - failed to make an impression. Have to give another listen or two.
11. I <3 you - it's stupid. I like it, but it's stupid. (Welcome to the golden age, everything is peachy now. IS THERE SOMETHING YOU LIKE? LA-LA-LA-LA LIKEE????)
12. Adult Girl - production sounds like a leaked demo.
13. Final Boss - fell on the "cringe" side of the camp fence for me, sadly.
Not a terrible album, not an amazing album. Definitely a good step forward though.

I daresay Cuntissimo is the most iconic song in her discography, if not on the level of Oh No! and Primadonna at least. The whole concept of singing this title a few times in a song out of nowhere and meaning extremely hairy vagina is just queen behaviour

Maybe that's why it's in my top three Sky Ferreira pre NTMT rejects >>> multiple discographies. I love Rollercoaster, I was listening to that yesterday
Also, I agree with you Adult Girl would've been so much better if it had a good instrumental. It suffers from Buy The Stars syndrome (boring piano-only production).

Air have done Trip Hop on the virgin suicides soundtrack but it’s probably best if she sticks to psych or the Lou Reed sound, I can’t see her sounding good in typical Trip Hop- it’s usually quite dour. She could try something like Sneaker Pimps though, which could suit her.
