This is solely the result of a zeitgeist that resents trans women, (openly by conservatives, and in private by liberals), and a dedicated community of demonic terfs/neonazis on kiwifarms/lolcow who openly want to get trans women to kill themselves (and have succeeded several times in the past). She is simply one of their recurrent targets because she is very successful, and that infuriates them. Go check out her long dedicated threads on kiwifarms/lolcow forums if you dont believe me, see how they hacked and stalked their way into having all her deeply personal information from childhood to adulthood, collecting it for years and waiting for a time to strike for maximum damage. Check out the vile disgusting things they say, not about her controversies, but at her appearance and the simple fact that she is a trans woman. 
 
Those stalkers and associated TERFS are the ones that launched the smear campaign (plus all the previous cancellations), and cis/cishet people ate it up unscrupulously because most of them have never had to deal with the unanimous vitriol trans women experience everyday, and so cant even comprehend having a popular forum dedicated to harassing/stalking them until they kill themselves. So like always they take everything at face value and dogpiled like the crypto-reactionaries they are. 
 
The only thing they uncovered that was at all worth concern was the n-word thing, but if you think her saying the n-word once in private almost a decade ago is why shes being cancelled, you're actually straight up dumb, plain and simple. I guarantee all your favorite white/(especially hispanic) singers have said the n-word at least once before, and they haven't done a fraction of the charity work Ethel has. Yet only Ethel gets a massive smear campaign every 6 months calling her a racist pedophile rapist zoophile fetishist, and it's solely, completely and entirely because she is trans.

I really like the new album cover variant! For some reason, it reminds me of her old eras. I prefer this to be the official cover, not because of the controversy of the standard cover, but the pink one is just a nice standout from the rest of her discography

it doesn't take a genius to discern that she uses themes of incest in her work as a form of commentary on stereotypes that surround poor southern communities such as the one she's from. no, a lot of her art is not hyperpalatable, and it's completely okay to not like it, but to make transphobic comments and accuse her of being a sexual predator just because it explores themes you're not comfortable with is honestly doing way too much
