I am disgusted -  but not surprised - that Trump said that he hopes he gets the death penalty. Idk it just seems like a massive overstep for the president of the country to come out and say "I hope we get to kill him" - how can that statement NOT influence the judge?
I mean, whoever the judge is, they are going to know that this is how their president feels, and depending on their own views, they may be more or less inclined to give this sentence because of Trump's opinion. Something like "I hope he is dealt with to the full extent of the law" is okay but I don't think it's appropriate for the president to be giving his opinion on the sentence.
Surely he would have grounds to appeal on this basis if he WERE given the death penalty?
Idk maybe this just bothers me because I am firmly against the death penalty, but it stood out to me as an extremely inappropriate comment.

Some of you are seriously downplaying his actions and that disturbs me quite frankly. No I do not celebrate or condone violence, I despise it all, but let's not pretend this was an innocent man simply killed for a difference of opinion. Please take the time to actually understand the things that he said, the hate that he incited, the influence he had over a large number of people, and the violence he recklessly supported and encouraged. An awful person through and through. It's people like Charlie Kirk who are actively and aggressively ruining America and the world at large. Do I think his assassination will have any positive impact? Not at all and I worry for what could come next and how things could spiral. But this is the epitome of fuck around and find out. If you devote yourself to convincing others that vulnerable lives aren't worthy of respect and promoting violent and dangerous rhetoric, then you can't be surprised when violence finds its way back to you. Spare me with the righteous think pieces that we should all mourn any life lost. I will cry for what humanity has become, but not for Charlie Kirk.

I understand what you’re saying, and I feel like everyone can agree that if people went around killing everybody who had a different opinion from them then we would be living in a very barbaric world.  But where I think I start to disagree is the fact that I don’t see Kirk as an innocent man, or a harmless commentator with “questionable politics”.  I see people saying that because he wasn’t in an office he didn’t have any real power or perhaps blame for things, at least compared to someone like Trump, and I just don’t think that is entirely true.  I believe that someone who backed Israel as much as he did and thus helped enable the genocide of the Palestinians with his hyper conservative propaganda 100% has blood on his hands one way or another.  You mention the bigger picture but with little to no mention of the 67,000+ civilians that have been slaughtered with thanks to people like Kirk pushing zionist ideology across the country, to a lot of young men specifically.  People keep talking about his pro-gun stance or his intense views on abortion etc but to me that is what the bigger picture really is.  He wasn’t a rapist or a pedophile like you said but I fully believe that the he had a role in a genocide (granted nowhere near as big of a role as trump or netanyahu) but that should put him up there on your list of moral wrongdoings.  Every day I open my phone to the news and see endless videos of men, women, and children being killed in Gaza in the same brutal fashion that Kirk went out.  Two wrongs will never make a right but I just can’t see anyone who stands behind Israhell as innocent, especially with the platform of millions that Kirk had.  It goes beyond a civil viewpoint disagreement. Still I fully agree with you that he still didn’t deserve to be killed, if anything it made things worse — but I also can’t be totally surprised that people are reacting the way they are.

They released pictures of him, surprising in a College in America in 2025 thats the best pictures they have. You'd think they'd have good video of him walking and far more to release.

No one is ever going to convince me to feel empathy for a neo-nazi who spent his life showing none for those different from him. His views weren’t about trivial preferences like sour cream versus barbecue chips, they were about genocide, stripping people of their rights and celebrating violence. People lost their lives because of the very things he preached and now he’s part of the statistic he downplayed.

I’m not celebrating his death, especially since gun violence is a plague in America and beyond, but I also don’t feel bad for him. He defended gun violence when it came from his white peers and he died protecting the same people he believed were “real victims” while painting trans people and “gang members” (we know what he meant) as the real threat as his last words. How could I see him as someone who deserves empathy when he never mourned the children slaughtered in Gaza, nor the children in his own country who died because of the very culture he enabled? He mocked their deaths, used his platform to dehumanize them, and spread hate.

And I say this as someone who lived under a president cut from the same cloth - Trump’s ideological twin. A man now on trial for attempting a coup. A man who let thousands die during COVID, including people from my family, because vaccines were, in his words, unnecessary for what he called “just a flu.” When bodies piled up, he laughed it off: “I’m not a gravedigger.” Neither am I.

So no, I won’t mourn Charlie Kirk. I do feel for his family, especially his children, who likely never understood the depth of the hate their father stood for, but don’t demand respect for a man who openly wished people like me or you dead. He never saw our lives as worth grieving, so why should I see his any differently?
