I don’t like how Lana herself, the fandom and the critics painted out this album to be a social commentary when, in fact, 99% of the lyrics are about love and relationships. The Kanye West reference, the “LA’s in flames” line and the “there’s a new revolution” line - because there really isn’t more to it - are not enough to make it a social commentary. She does not even give an opinion on those events/movement she briefly and vaguely alludes to! Lust for Life would be much more of a social commentary. It saddens me because the one album that’s painted out to be deep and politically relevant has lyrics that are so much safer than lyrics on Blue Banisters or even Chemtrails.

I definitely think the discourse around the album has been disproportionate to what actually is in the album.

Does anyone else think that this song is spooky as fuck? I listened to it for the first time in the car with my gf the other day and it gave us both hardcore anxiety. The first part was fine, if a little boring, and the beat change was cool, but something about those sound effects was unsettling. I've listened to it since then in headphones while drunk and I've enjoyed it, but I'm legitimately afraid to listen again sober. It's like VBBOTG all over again, which I had to take a break in the middle of and come back to. I love that she's doing big production again and I'm very excited about the new album, but yikes.

It's definitely unsettling, some people don't like this type of sounds, it can trigger their anxiety.

but do we ever even get apple music streams? these numbers only represent half of the streams, if not more :awkney:

Apple never shares their streaming numbers publicly, same for Amazon Music and all the other streaming platforms. They only report them to Google. Which I find rather fishy because chart manipulation becomes much easier.

Is anyone else having trouble streaming Lana on Spotify? Ever since the day A&W was released I can’t stream any of her music. Everything is grayed out. I don’t have this problem with any other artist on there though. I wonder how many people it’s happening to, and if it’s affecting the stream count significantly? I’ve been listening on YouTube ?

It's working fine for me... Try to restart your phone

What’s the difference between filtered and unfiltered streams and are these comparable?

Spotify filters out some streams that it deems as spammy to avoid stans manipulating the charts too much. So if you stream the song 100 times a day, it will only count a small portion of them. However, the unfiltered streams count all of them. The filtered streams appear on the Spotify Top 200 chart, and count for Billboard, while the unfiltered streams is what appears under her artist page next to the songs.

  7. Blue Banisters did 7,763,597 streams first day. Chemtrails did 10,426,329. I'm pretty sure Ocean Blvd will be able to top these with 16 songs if the first 2 singles have both managed to pull over 2m streams. BB was her first album not to hit top 3 so I hope she comes back strong. If the album is as amazing as it's promising to be, I wonder if it could match NFR's 74 million first week - which was one of the top 10 demale debut weeks at the time.
