Lana Del Rey Makes a Case for Dressing Normal
The singer made a low-key appearance at Chateau Marmont, like she never left

t must be the 2010s, because Lana Del Rey is back at Chateau Marmont and wearing jeans and sneakers like a non-superstar normie.
The singer stepped out to the iconic Hollywood hotspot some days ago, giving us flashbacks to her “Video Games” days—but a lot more low key. For the visit, Del Rey left behind her Southern belle dresses, ample skirts, flirty bows, and sharp cat-eye makeup—trading them for a surprisingly normal uniform instead: a dark gray sweater, classic straight-leg blue jeans, and white sneakers, with no makeup.
She wore her hair down in loose waves and seemed to have on no jewelry save for her diamond engagement ring from husband Jeremy Dufrene. No fuss, no problem.
The easy, perfectly nice outfit brought to mind the question: What’s so bad about dressing normal, anyway?
Del Rey’s quiet return to Chateau Marmont comes more than a decade after the star famously featured the castle-like hotel on Sunset Boulevard in the video for her 2012 debut single, “Video Games,” and even played an intimate show there, dressed in a romantic cream shirtdress accessorized with a think black belt and a cropped brown fur jacket.
Lana Del Rey performs during the Mulberry Spring/Summer 2012 dinner at Chateau Marmont on December 8, 2011.
In an interview at the time, she referred to the chateau as “a place that’s inspired so many of my videos and influenced a lot of my visuals.” She added: “I knew in my in my video for ‘Video Games’ I wanted to feature different clips of the Chateau because it was one of the most beautiful places that we had seen in Hollywood.”
While that's true, I'm glad she mentioned Palestine and acknowledged the situation. She's not a small indie artist who can scream fuck you Netanyahu and 'get away with it'. She's a big artist and even posting this already will get her into a lot of trouble and harassment.
I do not expect her to be a politician. I actually don’t expect her to do much at all except put out great music and be a generally decent person, which she is.
When she does engage in political speech however, people should engage back. It’s actually healthy for people to have these conversations
