yah I get that she was already reworking songs, but I do wonder if Lana likely knowing in advance of Taylor’s announcement to release Showgirl killed her momentum (with 57.5 never dropping, etc.) even further. Taylor usually drops variants/remixes for at least a couple months right? Lana would know that basically anything she releases during that time would essentially be overshadowed not that she cares about publicity thattt much anymore, but she’s savvy enough to understand that Taylor’s songs will dominate the charts/conversation, so she probably figured: why not use that time to fine-tune even more. Her going to the Neil Young charity event at least signals that she still has her heart in the game (just saying this part bc some people have been dooming about her potentially retiring or whatever). It was such a heartfelt performance

all of this 🔝 it’s been true her whole career- the difference now being she finally has the professional respect, acclaim, & clout that she did not have starting out. —now when she speaks, she knows it will be more received by ‘the industry’ - including by the critics who wrote her off from the get-go (& seemed to continue to try to stifle her for whatever bs reason). she’s never been in a better place professionally, personally, or (seemingly) mentally/emotionally to speak about this - she knows it will get picked-up too so good for her 🗣️ She probably feels like she will be actually heard for once- or at a bare minimum she knows her words carry more weight now.

Just wanted to add to all this discourse that Lana’s parents’ supposed income does not necessarily equate to her living an ‘upper middle class’ life as a child Lana has had to explain that her family had to apply for financial assistance/ use their contacts for her schooling. We have no idea where her family’s money was going, nor should we lol. furthermore, she’s hinted at being cut-off from whatever income her parents actually had. Something effed up clearly happened when she was a teen, & it makes me so angry/sad for her that she feels the need to defend herself but shit if she wants to still speak up, then let the woman speak 🗣️ who the eff are we to tell her where her energy “should be going.” Like yah it’d be wonderful if she was “over it” but how can she be completely over a topic (even years later) that people online/critics still frame as a detriment to her body of work? let her continue to process what she went through however the hell she wants
