drewby Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Pitchfork has been so complimentary this era and they also love Jack so I'm honestly expecting Best New Music. Come through corporate shills! 9 Quote
Jared Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Everyone go check out Stereogum's review! What a great read. 5 Quote
ilovetati Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Also, AllMusic used to have UV highlighted blue as the “choice” album with the highest rating of 4/5, but the blue has been removed. I think/hope that means NFR will be made the “choice” with a 4 or 4.5 score. Edit: Nvm, I think it was because I was on mobile. 7 Quote

ilovetati Posted August 30, 2019 Author Posted August 30, 2019 Full-on rave from LA Times (and they're heavily-weighted). They call it "dazzling," "stirring," and "emotionally-risky." https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2019-08-29/lana-del-rey-norman-rockwell-album-review Reads like a 100. 14 Quote
longtimeman Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 I don't think it counts for anything but Brooklyn Vegan has given it a very positive, unscored review: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/review-lana-del-reys-norman-fucking-rockwell-is-her-most-uncompromising-yet/ 2 Quote
trailertrash Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 I just want to say before the flood of positive acclaim for this album comes out... Don't forget that these are the same publications who publicly crucified her at the start of her career. She was so discouraged after Paradise that she vowed to never make music again. The acclaim is well deserved and long overdue. 32 Quote
YUNGATA Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 3/5 from The Guardian Lana Del Rey: Norman Fucking Rockwell! review – an artist you can depend on 0 Quote

Poor Stacy Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 He didn't even bring up Hope... or what it means to the context of the album. Awful review. 3 Quote

It's delicious 11 Quote
AphroditeBaby Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 That review is another generic "All of Lana's music sounds the same, no matter how different it sounds" review. She gets one or two every album she releases, still plagued by this idea that creating a world and inhabiting a character is reductive rather than expansive... To me it screams a lack of critical thinking and understanding... And a total disregard for the way the culture has changed in the last 7-8 years and how that has impacted her lyrics, singing, aesthetics, etc... Even listening to the music alone, the production, melodies, lyrics, and themes have marked departures from older "Lanaisms" if he stopped to actually listen/think about things... The "lead" single, MAC is literally her reclaiming this narrative that she's perpetually depressed, tortured femme fatale... Hope is her clarifying her journey in a way that she's never done before... Let me stop 19 Quote
Poor Stacy Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 This is very frustrating. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/what-to-listen-to/lanadel-rey-norman-f-rockwell-review-one-trick-pony-beautiful/ 2 Quote
GodBlessMe Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 So far her score is at 77. :/ They added the LA Times review as an 80, but doesn't it read like much more positive than that? 1 Quote I AM MY ONLY GOD

SweetHenny Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 The Guardian and Telegraph can go FUCK THEMSELVES. They did her so bad and fucked up her Metacritic score, I cannot fucking believe 7 Quote
