I heard a long time ago that this song was written for or about her brother Charlie.

I think this is about drugs. Flying high, plus we all know Lana writes about the subject a lot. Plus meth has been called pilot salt.

It seems like she actually did have an interest in aviation after all, regardless of all the other metaphors she might have used in the lyrics.
