Princess Superstar March 11, 2021 Patreon - Lizzy Grant Segment 

 

I was recently talking to an ex member on here, who was super generous and sent over a Princess Superstar interview for her Patreon members, for us to hear! 

 

Princess Superstar's segment about working with Lana from 2008-2010 starts around the 14:40 - 32:00, but I was advised to highlight a few important points she made during this interview: 

 

-  Lana fans harassing Princess Superstar for info

- She confirms Lana's terrible showcase (due to nervousness and shyness mainly) at the Highline Ballroom in 2010 with Kalae Nouveau, as many people showed up for her only to find out Lana's stage presence wasn't great live that day 

- How Ben Mawson was originally Princess Superstar's lawyer & introduced both Lana and Ben to each other  

- The making of Maha Haha 

- She claims that Lana recorded background vocals/ wrote for Princess Superstar's song, "Boss Chick", but she meant to say "Chick Habit"  

- a remixed version of Catch and Release

Hmmmm I'm glad we have this cause it's interesting but I don't know how I feel about her... like she generally speaks of her positively but there's some backhanded compliments I find kinda weird and unnecessary (like the plastic surgery cause she was insecure bit) 

But yeah I don't know I don't want to judge a person by a little interview (even though I kinda just did sorry )

Still kinda blows my mind that Lana & Princess worked together. I've been a Princess fan since her early 2000s album 'Last of the Great 20th Century Composers' (my fave albums being 'My Machine' & 'Princess... Is'  which is a total side-note). Anyway, whenever I found out that they worked together on some unreleased tracks, it was like having my Worlds collide in a totally unexpected way. Princess is very kitschy and off the wall in her rapping and music style. She's not someone who I would expect to be working with Lana on any level.

Also interesting tidbit Re the Matador records dude being (maybe?) lana’s record exec lover? Tho who knows if PS remembered the label he worked for correctly.

Update: the song was confirmed as “Chick Habit”, not the ones I mentioned - it’s a very 60s-ish sounding song

I need to hear a version of Chick Habit with just Lana vocals so bad now oh my god, the April March version is one of my favorite songs ever  But anyways, super cool to get this insight from her! (although can't say I agree with everything she said ) I always find it super cool to hear from producers Lana worked with during this time period

Makes sense that the audience wouldn't her 2010-esque performances... it's truly an acquired taste & not really accessible

 

The Ben Mawson thing is also weird because now we got 3 different stories on how Lana met him

Actually I don't think she mistook Canal Room for Highline Ballroom, since that's where it says she met Ben - assuming this is because of PS

Mind blown!! I remember when Princess was recording The New Evolution. She was self-producing that album and asked her fans to donate money to cover the cost of production. As a fan, I donated funds. Princess sent me a signed copy of the album (CD format) and an embossed DJ tote bag when the album dropped since I helped monetarily. I still have both items. 

 

I just went and re-listened to Chick Habit to see if I could notice Lana in the background lol

Also, although she wasn’t talking very friendly about Lana in that interview, I think she still really appreciates her time working with Lana. 
 

She has already pulled out a few new things to listen to, so I guess we sit here and wait now lol. I think @Elle @Surf Noirmay be interested in this SS*
