Mileena Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I just want everyone's thoughts on if they prefer the demo of a song to the final version. With Carmen I prefer the demo (the demo with music), I just like the almost jazz feel to it. However, I'd prefer it with the French part in. 0 Quote

Lana Del Rey Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 As much as I love Lucky Ones, I prefer the demo, mainly because it's more upbeat, but it would be... unfitting for Born To Die 0 Quote Angel-Headed Hipster

I also love the Hey Lolita Hey demo far more than the album version. 0 Quote

Hello Heaven Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I love the Diet Mountain Dew demos as much as the album version - I'm not sure which version I like best. 0 Quote
RileyThomas Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I definitely prefer the Diet Mountain Dew, Without You & Lucky Ones demo to the album versions, and maybe even the National Anthem demo too. 0 Quote
Mileena Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Oh yes, I would of preferred any of the DMD demos on the album rather than the final production. I'm sorry, but her producers murdered that song. It kind of sounds like a bad wannabe gangster remix. That constant 'hey hey' in the background infuriates me. 0 Quote
Roses Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 For mostly of the songs, I prefer the demos (specially Lolita and DMD with the pre chorus), except Born To Die and Blue Jeans. And I like both versions of Video Games and Carmen. 0 Quote
PrettyBaby Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 I guess I must prefer the demo version of National Anthem to the album version. But what I really like best is the Final+Demo version someone posted at LDR.FM! 0 Quote
lflflflflflflflflflf Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Born to Die, Blue Jeans and Video Games demos are almost identical to the studio ones so I won't judge those. I think Diet Mountain Dew's demo is too slow. I prefer the piano and the beat on the studio version! The Nexus version of National Anthem slays tbh. It's better than the studio version for sure. The other version of NA isn't as impacting but I do like the inclusion of strings and piano. Dark Paradise's demo is less depressing than the studio version and I do like the extra lyrics. The drum beat in the chorus is good but I think it doesn't really suit what the song is about. The piano tune in the first few seconds of Radio demo make the song a hundred times better imo. The Carmen demo is just a piano, string and percussion version. I like the alternate acapella version's lyrics and she should have included them in the final version to be honest. Million Dollar Man sounds the same but I think the singing is more raw in the demo version. However, the extra instumentals in the final studio version paces the song a lot better. This Is What Makes Us Girls demo is a strong song. The beat is much better and I prefer the faster tempo. I think Lana's high singing is much better than her low singing. The Demo version sounds more innocent and carefree rather than the serious and foreboding sound of the studio version. I do like the panning klaxon sounds in the studio version though! Without You demo is beautiful but it's only just a simple piano track so I can say that I like the studio version much better. Hey Lolita Hey is a thousand times better than the final version. I really dig the old-time (1970s?) sound and the bassline is a real earworm. It sounds like it should be played in a small american pub and everyone just gets up and starts swinging. The alternate demo is much more 'sleazier' and jazz sounding with slow doublebass bow movements. It sound very seductive and I'm not sure which version suits the song better so I really can't choose. The studio version sounds very evil and menacing. The demo for Lucky Ones also sounds very different to the final version. The guitar adds something to the song for me personally. The song sounds very redneck roadtrip-y with the tambourine and the clapping. This is exactly how it should sound like because the song is about finding the adventure in love and the demo does a better job than the final version. And I can't resist saying this but the demo for Driving In Cars With Boys shits all over the final version. I know it's only a few added lines and Lana sings in her falsetto voice but it's just so much better. So so so so much better. </wall of text> 0 Quote
ChasingTheGhost Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 Lucky Ones. I can actually listen to that song if it's the demo. 0 Quote Tumblr Last.fm
CharlieDR Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 For all the songs, I prefer the demos versions. The demos of "Lolita" and "National Anthem" are so great that I don't listen the albums versions of these songs tbh. 0 Quote LanaDelReyFan.Com

Monicker Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Million Dollar Man sounds the same but I think the singing is more raw in the demo version. The vocals in the MDM demo were flown into the album version. Same exact vocals. There are some very slight timing issues when they were cut up and put over the album backing track, which is what you might be hearing as the difference. 0 Quote "The limits of my language mean the limits of my world." -Wittgenstein
Sitar Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Really, the demos are almost always better. Particularly for Driving in Cars With Boys and National Anthem. Another recent love is Yayo as it appears on No Kung Fu, it has this great power to it. 0 Quote
RileyThomas Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Adding to what I have said, the only Demo which I dislike is the Blue Jeans Demo because it skips out the bridge and I think that's the best part of Blue Jeans. 0 Quote
Guest Chloe Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 The National Anthem demo (first one) is way better than the studio version. Everything about it.. 0 Quote
