NormanFRockwell Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Hey guys, While we wait (and wait, and wait) for Lasso, what's everyone been watching this year? What movies did you like, love, hate? I feel like it's been an amazing year for cinema, especially for horror. Here are some top pics/recommendations I'd like to share with y'all. Loved: Wicked - So, so good! If this wins BP, it will be a very worthy winner. Ariana Grande can act! 10/10 Anora - brilliant as expected with Sean Baker, an instant classic 10/10 Queer - just wow. 10/10 Blink Twice - brilliant debut for Kravitz. Food for thought, entertaining, and gripping af. 10/10 Inside Out 2 - an absolute blast at the cinema imo and better than the first 10/10 Babes - best comedy of the year imo. Absolutely fucking hilarious 9/10 The Apprentice: surprisingly good and watchable, Oscar nom worthy performance from Sebastian Stan 8.5/10 Juror no. 2 - one of the best of the year and deserves more love. Some iffy supporting performances drag it a bit down, but Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collete are pitch perfect 8.5/10 Oddity - so fucking good! Not a single cliche in it. One of the best horrors of the decade 8.5/10 The Substance - phenomenal, outrageous, stylish, few flaws but well worth the hype 8/10 Late Night with the Devil - very, very good, original, and creepy. 8/10 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: also an absolute blast at the cinema, and a fine return to form for Tim Burton. 8/10 Nosferatu - goth next level, Eggers's best film to date, and Skarsgard killed it. Deserves the Oscar for best cinematography. 8/10. Good: Abigail: fun, bonkers, hilarious, a great time at the cinema 8/10 Challengers: Okay, it's not quite as hot and sexy as I thought it was gonna be, but still good. great soundtrack 7.5/10 Speak No Evil: clever, twisty script, and performances 7.5/10 Immaculate: fun, scary, with a really good performance by S. Sweeney 7.5/10 Conclave: well-made, watchable, good acting, bit a little overrated. Expected more after all the hype. 7.5/10 Woman of the Hour: a fine debut from Anna Kendrick. Love Hollywood ladies venturing into directing 7/10 Civil War: Not Alex Garland's best but still good 7/10 The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: Suuuper cute and easy to watch 7/10 A Different Man: Artsy and well-acted, but also kinda drags on 7/10 The Room Next Door: Huge fan of Almodovar, but this is not his best 7/10 Meh: Maria: Solid work from Jolie, but the movie kind of becomes more and more boring and less specific as it goes along, and eventually ends up being sappy as hell. 6.9/10 Thelma: Cute movie, but not worthy of the praise it's getting? 6.9/10 Paddington in Peru: Massive disappointment after the first two. 6.3/10 Fly Me to the Moon: Look great, but too long and overstuffed 6.3/10 Nightbitch: undercooked af 6.3/10 Kinds of Kindness: What a comedown after Poor Things. Guess they had fun making it 6/3 (and that's only for the style) Rumours: It's creative all right, but also boring af and way too long 6/10 Alien: Romulus: MEH. 6/10 Heretic: Solidi Grant but just meh, didn't even finish it. 6/10 Hit Man: I like Powell, and it's a good concept, but kinda fell asleep 6/10 A Family Affair: harmless background movie while you do your laundry or dishes. The lead is annoying af tho 5/10 Loathed/Couldn't Finish: Emilia Perez: I love musicals, gangsta shit, Spanish, and I'm GAY... but this didn't grab me at all. 5/10 The Fall Guy: Very long nap vibes. If basic bitch were a movie 5/10 Twisters: same, one big cliche 5/10 Gladiator 2: That CGI lmao. The script, the lead... Cute boys tho 5/10 Love Lies Bleeding: Wtf. Starts good, but turns into hogwash. 4/10 A Quiet Place Day 1: Absolute rubbish compared to the first two films in the series. 4/10 Longless. A good Nicolas Cage, but the script is outright moronic. 4/10 I Saw the TV Glow: What the f even was that? 1/10 The new Lindsay Lohan Xmas movie. Netflix is churning out literal shit at this point. 1/10. Can't wait to see: Babygirl, Blitz.. There's a lot going on this year. But what a year for cinema! What say you? 3 Quote "Stove... Super Movie Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Challengers and Lisa Frankenstein are by far my favorite movies released this year 3 Quote
mssainttropez Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 I haven’t seen many new movies this year, I’ve only seen three so far. I really liked Longlegs, those who get it, get it. I also saw Deadpool & Wolverine. I’m not a huge Marvel fan but I still enjoyed it! This last Sunday I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice which I LOVED. I’m a huge Tim Burton fan, and I have so much love for the cast as well. As for upcoming films, I definitely want to see Wicked. It makes my heart melt knowing that Ariana gets to live out her childhood dreams of playing Glinda. Cynthia is also so gorgeous, and I’m excited to see her on screen. And finally… Jeff, the loml, is in it too. I would like to see Inside Out 2, It Ends With Us (only for Blake and the soundtrack), Immaculate, MaXXXine (insane that I still haven’t seen it) and A Quiet Place Day 1. If I do get around to watching any of those I’ll be sure to update it here! 2 Quote ⊹˚⋆ dreaming away your life ‧₊°

The trailers didn't do much for me, but maybe I'll give it a ago. Cheers 2 Quote "Stove... Coming soon." - Lana Del Rey
Sunbather Moonchaser Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I don't wanna sound like one of those tiktok coquette teens but I think that MaXXXine is the best movie released this year 2 Quote

Make me your Dream Life Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I’ve really enjoyed Deadpool and Wolverine. Watched it like 5 times thank u discounted pricing. Haven’t gotten tired of it, it’s a diff kind of feel good movie imo. A Quiet Place Day One, it was short and didn’t really seem to go anywhere, bur I love the shots/ frames of the film, and I liked how endearing the dynamic was for the main characters. Challengers! The audience I was watching with got the jokes and made it a lot more of an enjoyable watching experience. Dune Part 2 of course. 3 Quote
shadesofblue Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 i really don't watch movies which i want to change, but i did see inside out 2. it was actually really good for some reason i cried multiple times ?? i think disney/pixar did a great job again portraying emotions and how they change as you grow up. it's more of an older teen/adult movie though, i'm not sure if younger children would grasp some of those concepts, but it exceeded my expectations. 2 Quote

Agreed. Inside Out 2 was a fine return to form for Pixar, and one of their best overall. Some of their latest (Elemental, Lightyear, etc.) were abysmal. I hope they continue on this route, and Elio delivers. 1 Quote "Stove... Coming soon." - Lana Del Rey

The first one didn't really grab me much, so I'm delaying this. But I love Chalamet, Zendaya, Bardem, and the director. So, I'll force myself to watch it lol 1 Quote "Stove... And lol no yeah, I watched this one bc I had discounted tickets etc. and was so happy that I did with the audience that I watched it with. So happy when the audience seems invested in the film to really react and it was the best thing 1 Quote
