This decade: Timothee Chalamet in the Complete Unknown, Cate Blanchett in TAR, Emma Stone in Poor Things. Mind-blown by all of these. All-time male lead: Anthony Hopkins in The Father ? Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Capote, James Dean in East of Eden All-time female lead: Charlize Theron in Monster, Nicole Kidman in The Hours, Viven Leigh in Gone with the Wind, Natalie Portman in Jackie, Francis McDormand in Fargo, Kathy Bates in Misery All-time male supporting: Christopher Waltz in Inglorious Basterds, Jude Law in Talented Mr. Ripley, Joel Grey in Cabaret All-time female supporting: Monique in Precious, Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost, Julianne Moore in Boogie Nights Can watch these movies just for the performances. But Anthony Hopkins in The Father broke my heart the most. Was jumping from joy when he won. What an actor! Favorite category: female lead, always excited for that one the most. Haven't scrolled through the topic yet, can't wait to see your picks @Embach 3 Quote

Nicole Kidman in To Die For is the SLAY of the 1990s. How the fuck did I forget that performance in my list. Had her in for The Hours. Could those two performances have been any more different? It's like a different actor all together 3 Quote
bluechemtrails Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds Marlon Brando in The Godfather 3 Quote
Embach Posted February 8 Author Posted February 8 I think my all time favorite performance so far is Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds. His character was so evil and he also had this menacing charm which you can see in the opening scene, the way how he delivers his lines. He was like a villian from a comic book which had become alive, he was so convincing and intense in his role that I was actually a bit terrified watching this for the first time. This is something which in my opinion lacks in villians in superhero movies. Very charismatic but seriously sinister at the same time. Also, as someone who loved learning languages, those multi-language parts (I know he's an Austrian), especially that Italian part was so good. The ending was perfect as well, lol. Tarantino was genius for that, he blends comedy with action/thriller so well, especially with his scripts. I was so happy to find out that he won Oscar and many other awards for this performance. He totally deserved them. I credit Inglorious Basterds in general for raising my interest in cinema few years ago. I had already loved movies but this one in particular made me interested in the art behind filmmaking and acting. Before that Pulp Fiction had already made me love films more, it has also some of my favorite performances. That's the magic of Quentin Tarantino, I guess. He always has the best cast in his films and the script is always execellent. I have many other favorite performances as well. I have been thinking about that for few days now. I also love Meryl Streep in every of her roles, she's always killing it! 3 Quote
leavealighton4me Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Mysterious Skin and Ryan Gosling in Stay. Both characters were just extremely relatable to me, and that was what made their performances especially moving. 2 Quote
