There were no real Lizzy Grant fans, as in nobody was checking in on her or doing fan stuff. But people did think she was interesting at the time, notably the executives at iTunes liked her sound and offered to give her the artist spotlight if she released an ep.

The earliest fans came in 2010 when she was releasing random songs on YouTube. Diet Mountain Dew was the first song of hers that actually got a decent amount of views for her (I think it was around 25,000 compare to the typical 400 views or whatever) and that was what really got her fans. Then she released Kinda Outta Luck which that was even bigger and those fans started digging & then Kill Kill and Hundred Dollar Bill also started making waves online which lead up to her releasing an official press statement because of the attention she was getting.

I don't think any of those early fans are on Lanaboards but I know there's one fan on Twitter that's been a fan since early 2010 who even spoke with Lana during her missdaytona days which is insane in itself!!

i was a fan in 2011, when VG dropped it, and it was polarizing af. so many articles about who was this girl, where did she come from, blah blah blah. what work had she had done, just so many speculations and suspicions of her intentions as an artist (weird, bc does an artist like lana need "intentions"? the music was the music). this was the period that secured her current and forever relationship to the press, which is of total mistrust, rightfully. they pilloried her. at the same time, fans were IMMEDIATELY ravenous, esp the girls and gays of course, and she had a really devoted following as soon as the song blew up.

a weird time in the culture and def a weird response to this woman who just released a good song, period. i genuinely think a huge part of the backlash was based on her look, the super done lips in particular. american culture's relationship to plastic surgery/body modification was REALLY different at the time– that look had not at all entered the mainstream like it has now– and media grabbed that and ran with it.

Those of you on here who were Lana/Lizzy fans in the early 2010's-late 2000's.. what was it like?

I was one of the 2010 fans after a friend of mine made me a mixtape with a diet mtn dew demo in exchange for helping her with an engineering exam. I was instantly hooked but there wasn’t a lot of other material out there to listen to. I’m not clear where she got it from originally, and I’m also sad to report the demo is lost after my hard drive died sometime in 2012/13 ish :crai:

I just remember video games being allllllll over early tumblr. Not just the video but gifs and stuff. I remember listening to the YouTube video over and over and over and over times infinity and it was way before wireless headphones so most of this time was spent with headphones plugged into a desktop computer lol

I played that music video into the GROUND and spent a lot of time completely dissociated from the world around me with it in my college library

after that era I couldn’t really get enough. I remember it being cringe to like her but I was ~punk rock~ in high school so I wasn’t that in touch with popular culture anyway so I didn’t care.  I remember discovering that my girlfriends knew who she was and also listened to her and we were all like WAIT YOU KNOW LANA DEL REY TOO. And had that moment around the time she was tumblr famous

i hope my nostalgia doesn’t come off as schizo posting

Wasn't a fan during Lizzy era. But I was there in 2011 when LDR took off, so I can speak to that. Hope it's not a boring post...

I was legit fucking around on Youtube, and then came across Blue Jeans (homemade MV) completely randomly, and my jaw dropped. Then I clicked on Video Games and my jaw-drop extended all the way to the floor. I thought someone who made really good music had found a hot model girl in LA to sell the project better. I could. not. believe the voice and the look were THAT good, and all part of the same persona. When I read she writes all her stuff too, I became a die-hard fan instantly. So, I started watching more and more videos, even caught Summertime Sadness on YouTube at an early Lana gig before it was released. I remember her saying something like "You're not that impressed? Well, you're gonna fucking love it when it comes out."

Soon, the city of London was jam-PACKED with LDR billboards for Born to Die. I mean, Interscope must have spent a shit tonne. That cover was everywhere, and it was iconic. All everyone was talking about was LDR. I could not wait...

And then the album dropped.... And, well, it was much, much, much softer than I thought it would be. I'd been expecting more Blue Jeans and Summertime Sadness vibes (as was everyone). I didn't expect that many ballads, and I kinda hated a lot of the tracks (Dark Paradise, Lolilta, Carmen, Lucky Ones), and the noisy, clumsy production on tracks like Lolita. However, Born to Die, Off to the Races, Blue Jeans, Summertime Sadness and Video Games were so fire that I was still hooked. Soon, Ride dropped, and then American, Cola, and Gods and Monsters, and, by this point, I knew LDR was a genius. She had put out so many iconic songs in SUCH a short amount of time, with Young and Beautiful coming not long after.

A few years later, West Coast dropped and, obviously, I went crazy for it. I was curious if Ultraviolence would deliver, and from the moment I heard Cruel World, I knew she'd done it again and she can pull of rock, too. The second half of that album wasn't that great, but I got the sense that she was getting better and better with each album in that there are more good songs than bad songs. By NFR, all the songs were amazing, and that's why it's my fav record.

I could not have cared less for the SNL drama, and all the folks discrediting her talent. I just thought they were complete morons.

All that said, I'm hoping that The Right Person Will Stay delivers a great collection of songs with zero fillers or recycled all tracks. The wait has been excruciating, so it better be closer to NFR than her Lizzy grant era or rare slip-up like Blue Banisters

Didn’t find her during her lizzy years, but I did find her in 2012. I can’t quite remember what it was called, but iTunes had a section called recent releases or something along those lines. Other than that, I have a pretty vivid memory of it. I was riding in my dads car looking for new music to listen to on my iPod touch and loved the cover art. I remember the first song I heard was blue jeans <3 I listened to the rest of BTD and instantly being obsessed. Back then people just thought she was weird and depressing. People deff judged me at school for listening to her lol. Music released during the early 2010s was very upbeat pop and her melancholic lyrics just easnt what was popular.
here’s a list of top songs that year for example and I think you’ll see what I mean:

When paradise was released, I was so excited. I would reblog and scrolling on the lana side of tumble for hours. I think I’ve been on tumblr since 2010 or 2011 and even being on there wasn’t seen as cool I think a friend who was into kpop originally introduced me to tumblr. I found out about her unreleased music on tumblr and SoundCloud. I found black beauty when it got leaked before UV was released and I was so happy it was in the album. Wish I knew about LB back then!!

she literally put me on to paradise, dangerous girl, behind closed doors etc, i owe it all to her?
