Mick Jagger has said otherwise, but the general consensus is that the song was about him watching then girlfriend Marianne Faithfull’s struggle with drug addiction. Keith Richards portion of the song was about difficulty leaving his son to go on tour. Lana’s obviously referencing the song on watercolor eyes, but she kind of flipped the meaning there by saying “wild horses can’t keep us together” instead of “wild horses couldn’t drag me away,”. 2 Quote
