Jon Moss Posted May 18, 2025 Posted May 18, 2025 My humble opinion - these two songs have similarities: They both reflect a woman's love continuing even when her man fails. Lana of course delves deeper by exploring fatalism and aloofness - not submission, as Ms. Wynette's lyrics imply. If Tammy gave us the woman who stands by her man out of societal mores, Lana gives us the woman who knows she should not, but does so anyway? NFR is more jaded, and deeper, work of art - that reflect the differences between current times and Ms. Wynette's. Both explore themes of infatuation and entanglement with men who are failing them emotionally, physically, or other wise. What do you think? 6 Quote
Ultra Violet Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 I also like how NFR talks about the man in a way that brings to light how immature he is. Finally she wasnt idealising a man as a God, it's pointing out how he thinks he's a God but is quite clueless. Compared to Stand By Your Man, I think NFR probably is the 21st century update. It's more detailed. It's not just "Man do man things and women deal" it's like "This specific man is an idiot and here's why. I can have better than him but I dont" 3 Quote
