takemybreath Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 Netflix is officially buying Warner Bros. and HBO Max in an $82.7 billion deal. “Our mission has always been to entertain the world,” said Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. “By combining Warner Bros.’ incredible library of shows and movies—from timeless classics like 'Casablanca' and 'Citizen Kane' to modern favorites like 'Harry Potter' and 'Friends'—with our culture-defining titles like 'Stranger Things,' 'KPop Demon Hunters' and' Squid Game,' we’ll be able to do that even better. Together, we can give audiences more of what they love and help define the next century of storytelling.” “Today’s announcement combines two of the greatest storytelling companies in the world to bring to even more people the entertainment they love to watch the most,” said WBD CEO David Zaslav. “For more than a century, Warner Bros. has thrilled audiences, captured the world’s attention, and shaped our culture. By coming together with Netflix, we will ensure people everywhere will continue to enjoy the world’s most resonant stories for generations to come.” https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/netflix-to-acquire-warner-bros-82-7-billion-deal-1236601034/ 3 Quote

jimmyjimmycocoapuff Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 not a good thing, but it's the lesser evil still. glad the Ellisons won't get their hands on it. I can only hope Netflix considers theatrical, perhaps the Netflix movies can stick to the Netflix release model and Warner Bros movies can go to the theatres for a normal window? Also worried for physical media. I really hate this consolidating crap. 16 Quote

Embach Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 I mean, it's not really good news for cinemas but it's better than Paramount I guess...don't know what to think about it all, we'll see what the future holds. To be honest I don't really care about the other distrubutors as long as A24, Neon and Mubi are safe 7 Quote

The future of movie theatres will be dark if everything goes into streaming services. 9 Quote

carmenbelair Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 Does it mean there will be less movies shown in cinemas, since Netflix is a streaming service? 1 Quote

I think it's that but also more like, movies will have less running time, like when a movie is usually running in cinemas for like idk 2-3 months then now it would be like a week or two I think. 5 Quote
