“Dragonslayer” - Fanmade Music Video

I wanted to share with u the fanmade music video for “Dragonslayer” that I made.

 

“Dragonslayer” is my favorite Lana song, and I’m still grateful for Leakmas 2023, the day it leaked. I remember everything so vividly — I was sitting on my living room couch, waiting for Christmas dinner to start, when I opened Lanaboards and saw it: “[Leak] Dragonslayer”

I still remember the feeling of hearing it for the first time and just being stunned, bc it was a song I never imagined Lana would make.

That medieval atmosphere, that sense that she was telling a tale while also revealing something deeply personal.

 

I’ve always had a strong interpretation of why she ended up scrapping this track.

In my mind, it’s bc she didn’t want to draw more attention to that version of herself — the one who was so judged after SNL, the one from the interview where she supposedly said “I wish I was dead already” that time when everything she did was analyzed, attacked, and twisted.

And to me, the story she tells in this song isn’t about some random girl. It’s about her — told as if it were someone else, to hide how personal it really was. The girl with the heart of gold is her. And bc it’s so intimate, such a mirror of her own pain, I feel like she preferred to keep it for herself.

 

For the music video, I used footage from the “Pawn Shop Blues” MV that Chucky shot, bc that melancholic visual matched perfectly with how I imagine the song. I always dreamed of something more medieval, but the “Pawn Shop Blues” material brought a quiet beauty that also belongs to “Dragonslayer.”
