letmeloveyoulikelana Posted March 5 Posted March 5 The last couple days I have been reading Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, it is the very first time I have this book to my hands. I knew the title and some small details for story mostly from The Hours (2002), the movie starring Nicole Kidman, Julian Moore and Meryl Streep. I really desired and wanted to read this book and now that I finally did, I can't stop thinking of how much it reminds me of Blue Banisters (most of the times), Chemtrails Over The Country Club and generally Lana's art/poetry/lyrics/music. There are parts in the text that give me the idea of reading the feeling I receive from listening to Blue Banisters. The vocabulary and syntax Woolf uses in her book is so unique, just like Lana does in her songs. Lana has matentioned many times of how important she finds it to have a story for the album on which she can base it and not just release a bunch of songs with similar melody. So I don't find strange that both of them make me feel like that. I really like Mrs. Dalloway's character and I feel like she fits perfectly in Blue Banisters, especially with Violets for Roses. I find in both (text and album) a touch of happiness, freedom, carelessness and at the same time sadness, melancholy, a bit of homesickness. I would love to discuss this more with you dearests! 6 Quote you've got me all freaked out tonight
NormanFRockwell Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Interesting take. I'm not a student of Woolf, but I do see the resemblance. I think Lana has a lot of similarities with Plath, Whitman, T. Williams, and many other great English-speaking writers. It's like she's studied the greats and emmulates them in her work. Which is what I love about her the most (her lyricism, phrasing and storytelling). I saw The Hours too, and I thought it was a fantastic movie. Also, Nicole Kidman was Virginia Woolf in that movie. It's like she channeled her completely. Her voice work, the way she walks or turns her head, and the way her eyes never focus is just fascinating to watch. I think all Lana fans would enjoy both Woolf, this movie, and the book it's based on. 2 Quote "Stove... Coming soon." - Lana Del Rey

They are such brilliant artists who can captivate so many emotions in just one movie. Even the idea of the kind of biographical and book adaptation but at the same time original script is an amazing idea itself. And that is exactly what I think Lana is capable of doing. She can make art that flows purely out of her heart, inspired and influenced by her very favourite artists from all kinds and forms of art and then tell us a story through her music that is so unique but can also stand next to milestones that had been on top years, decades, centuries before her, before she even conceived her ideas. I am really proud of her and there are times I just think about how good she is at what she is doing and I always end up amazed and tearful with joy. She is one of the finest and we got our chance to enjoy the art she shares with us. 2 Quote you've got me all freaked out tonight
