bluedealer Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I think it’s really interesting case that need its own thread, but I’m not sure if I selected the right one. This is something I often think about when I listen to music. Sometimes I feel like you can really hear the moment when the artist smiles while singing. The first time I noticed it was in Old Money while she sings My fathers love was always strong My mother’s glamour lives on and on There’s something special about this moment like I can imagine that bitter sweet smile on her face while switching from father to mother line. I also noticed it in Video Games. I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure that you can hear her smile only once in the second chorus I heard that you like the bad girls, honey it’s that true It’s such a little thing, but it adds another emotional layer that I haven’t seen before. I think it’s so beautiful and also I wonder if you noticed it too and in which songs 20 Quote
sparklejumpropeweed Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I feel like ride is a song that performed live now sounds like she’s actively smiling. It’s a retrospective for her to the old times where she felt unhappy and insecure about everything. Now she’s at this point where she’s happy and stable so when she sung that live her voice sounded so happy 8 Quote
blueskiesforever Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Henry, come on - when she sings “all these country singers, and their lonely rides to Houston…” 26 Quote Summer’s meant for lovin’ and leavin’
Theomo Posted March 15 Posted March 15 In Oooh baby after the bridge she definitely smiles while singing: Did you say you wanna dance with me? Should be taking off your pants for me 6 Quote

letmeloveyoulikelana Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Oh my god! I have been thinking about that ever since I heard some specific songs of hers. I really like the idea that she actually smiles while singing specific lyrics, being more playful and fun with it. I find it very touching to be able to hear her happy voice, a very honest moment to be shared with us, let it be record it and played over and over again in time. I hear it very clearly in Old Money and Video Games as it is mentioned. I would say I slightly hear it on Chemtrails Over The Country Club as she says "Washing my hair, Doing The laundry" and in Love (probably to the whole song) and Lust For Life (mostly on the refren). Maybe Off To The Races "You never looked so beautiful as you do now my man". And I would also say that her voice sounds like she smiles in both AW and White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter. 7 Quote you've got me all freaked out tonight
Honeymoon CD Posted March 15 Posted March 15 This is one of my favorite things to hear in a song, it just makes it feel so much more personal! I also love how her voice sounds when I can tell she's smiling. Henry Come On's bridge American when she says "Baby put on that party dress Moi Je Joue Jealous Girl Sweet's chorus Dance Till We die when she says "Court almost burnt down my home" Kinda Outta Luck Wayamaya Video Games when she says "I heard you like the bad girls honey is that true" 8 Quote ꧁I've got a bad disease꧂ last fm ꪆৎ

bluedealer Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 Oh wow I’m so happy that you notice it too and share your thoughts here It really amazes me that such a small change in tone can create a new perspective of the song. I also remember hearing West Coast live and I don’t know how she did that but the whole song suddenly became very sad to me and I can’t even recall it now when I listen to the studio version 4 Quote
SweetCherryCola Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Diet Mtn Dew - "Diet Mountain Dew, baby, New York City, never was there ever a girl so pretty" Brooklyn Baby - "Yeah, my boyfriend's pretty cool, but he's not as cool as me" Love - "Back to work or the coffee shop" (she sounds like she's smiling throughout most of it and you can see it in the video) Tomorrow Never Came - "Isn't life crazy, I said, now I'm singing with Sean?" (you know she did that knowing that Barrie would be listening to it) Chemtrails Over The Country Club - "We laugh about nothing" Sweet - "Sweet in bare feet" Margaret - "I mean, join the party. By the way, the party is December 18. Alright, let's waltz this out, kids" (sounds like she's smiling throughout, really) 6 Quote
