Well, I suppose some might be hesitant to interact for perhaps reasons xyz but. lemme just add and start initial discussion about the movie.
it's like 1 hour and 49 minutes ~ a good eerie soundtrack perfect for the film. great lived in shots, overlapping themes and parallels that fit in quite well and mesh the spiritual and social in a modern day kind of sense. I love the emphasis on truths being laid bare through relationships

Acting, phenomenal.

Pacing was just right in my opinion.

I really LIKED the movie. I see the importance of the messages being conveyed and love the cabin-like sort of aesthetic to things tiny town, cloud it up that sorta thing.
and that it doesn't really drag. It was just right.
In saying that though, I do have to say. That the overall feeling I had watching was just annoyance. Sheer ass annoyance. So since it's in the trailer, the guy wishes that his friend loves him more than anyone. and that goes haywire.

Was thinking about that entire thing, that premise, and just how it mucks everything up, and sure, I've got reservations and take some things to account but. This annoyance was a good kind. and it really upped the viewing experience for me, and, surprisingly, it had a good funny, wtf? moments that I'm pretty sure a lot of us have lived through already, so, add that in to the relatability factor of things.

A truly good watch. I've been getting into or engaging more with horror/thrillers, I personally always loved the Conjuring series - something about understanding how people's minds work when it comes to the monsters, and how some characters saved and how. but, this is a really good watch, and it's just right in my opinion. It's balanced, it gets the job done to a good quality and lets itself come in, okay here, then go. and actually peaks interest even after the first watch.

So. Thoughts

and since it's just me for now. so far?

adding more of a framework for discussion - what would you wish for? how would you wish for it? what drives you to do so, and how far are you willing to go or have foresight /perspective about it?

I've never been so invested in a movie! I genuinely have nothing bad to say about it, it was so good! The movie is also really relevant to the culture today, I'm so glad they executed it in the way that they did. My theater was also really good, I've seen some videos of people talking about others laughing while Nicki is being raped or in obvious distress. It's possible that some of them are laughing as a shock response, but based on the videos I've seen and the way some people are interpreting the movie that wasn't the case.

maybe as a shock response, benefit of the doubt sure. we don't know what how they might be processing something disturbing and it can definitely be a thing..

I remember the audience when I was watching was sorta well, like what u said, felt more like it was uncomfortable laughter to sorta offset some stuff, but some of the scenes, even if u already know were coming, were still sooooo good scarewise.

I'm hoping that the other films sorta showcase the director's range, but also just props to the entire team making it all happen.

it's completely relevant to today's society, and how things were brought in there, the subtle dynamics and other details really just made me wanna know more about how the one wish willor just came to be.. I wanna watch it again ngl, it had me feeling, scoffing out of anger at times, plain annoyed, and that combo of shock scares. I think the last time I got this excited w the audience was the tennis match playing in the challengers

I've been thinking about this movie a lot, and I genuinely don't see how anyone could view Bear as a victim when he's the perpetrator for virtually the entire film... I felt it was very weird of him to ask the phone operator to adjust the wish rather than outright cancel it, but the scene where Nikki was channeling through Freaky Nikki, begging him to kill her because she had lost all autonomy over her own body, and then ignoring her (just as he was about to go out and cheat on her mind you) was SO beyond evil.

He was complicit and aware both that Nikki and the wish entity he birthed were suffering under something he caused and allowed it to continue. Evil asf.

I really want to re-watch this film but I don't wanna go the cinema again because the projector was extremely dark for some reason and it was so hard to see. I'm glad my experience didn't have people laughing at inappropriate spots, but I do think there was supposed to be some humor in this film ex. the frowning party scene. Either way... justice for Nikki and i'm excited to see the director's next project!

Also, I really can't imagine anyone else playing Nikki, Inde Navarrette was brilliant.

Finally got around to watching this and the whole time I was thinking of this poll. I was like okay maybe Bear will have some sort of redemption arc that won't make him seem like such a piece of shit, but that never came. I guess up until he tried to reach out to the customer service line and heard real Nikki screaming in agony, he could've been considered innocent, but even after that he let it go on for so long. Up until the end when he did what he was told from the beginning was the only way to end it. I'm kinda happy that it ended how it did. I was about to be so mad if he had actually thrown up the pills and just went insane and lived happily in love while Nikki stayed trapped.

Loathed this movie with a passion.

The lead guy deserves everything bad that happened to him, including the ending.

The movie on the whole is dull, dreary and completely humourless. The dialogue is giving ChatGPT next level. The characters are stock figures with no real personalities. It's like a robot (well, ChatGPT's) idea of how young people sound and behave. The plot has been done to death and brings nothing new to the table. But the way the lead character goes about dealing with it is something else - in terms of absolute incompetence. The first time he confides in his best friend - why doesn't he just say exactly what happened, as opposed to beating around the bush and blaming it all on the girl? He KNEW he fucked up from the start with that wish, but he pretended he hadn't for the longest time.

None of it rang true to me. The movie's cheap narratively, cheap cinematically, and cheap emotionally. The only, ONLY good thing about it is the lead actress. She deserves an A+. The film though: 3/10.

It legit worries me that THIS has become some new freaking benchmark for horror. In the 80s or 90s, this would have been a straight to VHS.

yeah I get that. I was rolling my eyes and already saw what was gonna happen, but for me? I loved that. and it goes w like relatability and it striking a common chord w a lot of people, so. or how to say putting it in a way where you notice someone acting strange or treating you weird bc something's going, or the dynamics of like, repressed emotions and how that takes over how someone treats you, living thru something not as gruesome as this, but just a whole headache, heartache sometimes even.

I thought it was funny, and the audience I was watching it w seemed to get the transitions and cadences btwn the scenes so, I'm not mad at it.

I do have to say though, there was a prevalent feeling of just annoyance, when it comes to how bear was basically fumbling and fumbling. and I don't wanna excuse him, bc the moment after he makes the wish, he still just goes w it, but I think it's important to note that that's how his character was supposed to make us feel. I didn't like his one guy friend or so, they were hooking up and he was lowkey sabotaging their chances when he tries to shoot down his confession to her, or giving him bad advice like calling her freaky nikki, or that he didn't wish things to be fixed, but a billion dollars anyway anyway, that's like a whole other dynamic.

his character did a really good job of being someone we couldn't really forgive. and like another mentioned, I was hoping for some kind of redemption arc as well, but I forget the exact sequence, but there was that moment where nikki just wanted to die, what he did, and also basically when he was asking actual nikki in his room, something like, would it be so bad to be with me? or what's bad about with me? and the theater went cold.

I enjoyed it a lot. I was watching it w others too, and we couldn't stop talking about it for a couple days. I loved the premise, it was simple, the lore behind the supernatural. I thought it was pretty contained.

and idk, I think we just have to let people be able to appreciate things together if they do, and to not take it so hard. it's good that you know what you want to expect and what you like, but I also don't think it's good to just weigh it when it means something to people. like ok whatever ya know?

I think that whole thing was basically showing how much of a coward bear was. where he was still trying to undo that for himself, and how undoing the wish was still gonna be about him, not saving nikki. and yeah, I was hoping for some kind of undoing of the whole thing, cus that small town friend group autumn halloween vibe was cute imo, but yeah he really kinda just let things get so messy. she literally asked him to kill her, and he was like naaahhhh why tho

ohmygod.

Glad you like it and you enjoyed it. For me, if a lead character is an absolute idiot, I lose interest instantly.

Bear couldn't even fucking get his words out of his mouth when the girl he likes POINT BLANK asks, " do you like me?"

I wanted him to get murdered then and there. So I'm very happy that the film put him through the proverbial meat grindr.

Zero personality, lumpy sweaters, no courage, no sense of humor, greasy hair, lies to his friends..... He's the worst thing that happened to cinema in a long time.

Watched this last night.

What a crock.

People want to see a good horror movie released so badly, that they will hype up literally anything nowadays. This is literally just another movie. Theres no point. Nothing was said. It’s a nothing burger movie with a nothing burger lesson to teach.

this movie is literally just all of the source material and inspiration thrown at a wall, with no thought behind it whatsoever.

let me just say this…

in my opinion, if you’re watching a movie in 2026, and you can predict what’s going to happen every subsequent scene after the plot device is revealed (which is early on in this instance, by the way)…. It’s not a good movie. It’s not original. The violence is pure shock to remind you what you’re watching- and why it’s technically valid in existing where it does. But if there wasn’t the occasional left field jump scare violent bludgeoning, this would literally just be LIFE AFTER BETH… THE CORPSE BRIDE…. Literally thousands of other movies have done this exact thing- and better!

don’t even get me started on the piss poor camera/post production work.

this era of uncanny valley horror movies like longlegs smile weapons etc is just the FUCKIGN rock bottom of horror as a genre. Even beau is afraid was fucking terrible. Horror as a genre is in need of saving…. Again.

Im just going to start comparing every modern horror release to Drag Me To Hell. Peak mediocre cinema. Hell of a ride, checks every box, and has a clear rhythm. But im afraid 9/10 new releases would not hold up against ha!

Not only that but he goes to his friends house and says THIS WILL MAKE ALL UR WISHES COME TRUE …. Not “hey can you do me a favor and say I wish bear’s wish to be cancelled? And break it?”

even if the dude thought he was joking he would’ve done it. But the movie had no pulse. And the. The money falling from the sky???  😭 this had AI/writers strike written all over it in my opinion

So when it comes to this movie, there's been a lot of buzz about it, and how it was a movie made under a million budget, which- if I somehow managed to crowdfund or etc. that amount of money for a passion/creative project wowow- but basically, it came as a kind of dark horse of a film because of it RESONATED with a lot of people.

and I think it's worth noting that it's such a good wake up call, for when movies like this, as well as Backrooms sort of come into play when it comes to knocking on the gatekeepers' doors or actually having it open due to the creativity of newer generations and all the DIFFERENT ways of being able to do something and have that meet the forefront of the industry or industries.

It's exciting to think about, and the implications of what that might mean for the future.
