psycholifeguard Posted June 13 Posted June 13 i realized my favorite movies are of the Femme Fatale category. I love psychological thrillers, or simply movies about psychology. Not only that, but Lana has always exhibited these as one of her primary themes in her music and media. Probably Hence, I want to start this thread since I think it's a theme that can really manifest in our lives as-well. Share your thoughts about this concept, favorite movies, books, etc. 6 Quote
psycholifeguard Posted June 13 Author Posted June 13 omggg same. I wanted to talk about Girl, Inturrupted. The movie shows a main character, Sussana Kaysen, delving and coming in terms within her mind and identity when it came to being a woman with psychological peculiarity, where our world knows it as Borderline Personality Disorder, in a world with other women in the psychiatric ward. On the other hand, we have Lisa, a very complex, beautiful even, character who challenges alot of social expectations and reveals the power of her traits. Amidst the 60’s, culture begins to shift, and serves as a critical point for settings where women, queer identities, and traditional values are aprehended. In her novel, it provides more sensibilities with being a woman with mental illness, suicide, and unideal fates. Sussanna faced Fatale because she was pursuing release of psychological torment, Lisa due to antisocial and hedonistic natures, yet both screened under the same, patriarchal lens within the Health System. It's really cool. 4 Quote
Mer Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Basic Instinct is the most obvious Femme Fatale movie in my mind 7 Quote I would trade the Cartier for someone to trust (just kidding)
hongkongdisco mysterygirl15 Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity is quintessential when I think of the trope, but there are so many examples between the 40s noirs and the neo-noirs of the 80s and 90s... obviously there's a lot to be said and a lot that's already been said about the femme fatale as a representation of man's fear of woman and what evil women might be capable of. Although now it's more common to see her reclaimed as a celebrated figure among the girls and those who identify with them... Live fast die young bad girls do it well I guess Isabella Rossellini's character in Blue Velvet comes to mind as an interesting example because she's vulnerable and tragic even — neither good nor bad, while retaining all of the glamour and mystique and danger that we love about the femme fatale. And I like the lounge singer motif 7 Quote
Lana On The Silver Screen Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Gun Crazy may not be very popular but it's a hothothot film and an extremely favorite of mine. Peggy Cummins is absolutely incredible in this, if you consider that the archetype was getting in shape back then and she's one of the first and genuine strong female leads who deserves your entire attention. Considering also the time it was released, I am always suprised at how steamy and horny the characters are with each other all the time. And it's even better than showing any nudity or sex scenes. For some reason it makes it much much much better. You should at least watch it one time. 4 Quote LANA ON THE SILVER SCREEN
Embach Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Gone Girl was the first film that can to my mind. If you love this genre, you will adore her. For me, that character and her acting are the pinnacle of of 'femme fatale'. https://youtu.be/K52242f-q4E?si=dwV-cAg1ViO4Qqoi Also adore Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct. The movie has its flaws, but her character and how she looks, coupled with Stone's acting, is out of this world. OUT OF THIS WORLD. I'm gay af, but I turn totally straight. 1 Quote "Stove... I believe Lana on her Ultraviolence and Candy Necklace eras is the most femme fatale thing i can think of her doing and also the interview for Complex magazine (recreating Turkan Soray's and Malena's iconic cigarette scene) 2 Quote you've got me all freaked out tonight
