Been listening to him since 2018… regardless of what u think about his music, he was an extremely confident musician and writer and passing at 32 in such a sad way is so horrible:(

 

I remember coming across his song Cheapskate and have been following him since. He only had his Alien Boy EP out at the time… he used to write music under the name Tree as well

Ugly Is Beautiful is a legitimately fantastic album, and his Alien Boy EP was something i really carried with me when it first came out. "I fell down to earth from a hundred miles away but somehow I still make it work" is a really simple lyric that i really connected to while i was finding my way around the world as a young confused woman with autism <3 i also rinsed tf out of Hurt - we loved that one at pre-drinks, it's a great cathartic singalong song! - and Every Type of Friend from Ugly Is Beautiful used to be my go-to during a hangover because it would always cheer me up and put a smile on my face as i thought about all the bizzarro shit i got up to with my various friends the night before. absolutely loved this guy's sense of humour and commitment to not taking himself too seriously while still delivering genuinely great music. not gonna lie, this one stings a little. what does cast a little sunlight on such awful news is that this is such an Oliver Tree way to go - it seems like the kind of insane lore he would make up to add to his persona, the kind of headline that makes you go "huh? surely not!?" and i reckon he'd get a kick out of that. RIP man <3
