Gender Biased Murders: a rising phenomenon in Greece

I want to raise awareness about something.

So, since 2021 a phenomenon has been intensified. Men murder women. It is something that has devastated Greece, as we lose humans unfaily.

I don't know if this is such intense to other countries but here in shocked to see this phenomenon unfold. 

Last time this happened, was 2 days ago. A Man killed his wife after he made her life a living hell, with his jealousy, possessiveness, and his rotten soul! 

Every year 20-25 at average, these extreme gender biased crimes occur. 

One of the most tragic and exasperating incident happened back in 2024. 

A woman, named Kiriaki was in a toxic relationship with her future murderer. He was a psychopath and obsessed with her. He was jealous and trapped her inside his cage. He isolated her from her family and friends so as to achieve his morbid ideas. 

She managed to get away from him, realize that he was dangerous. She contacted the police, she filed restraining orders, she did everything she could so as to escape him. 

Of course he violated every attempt of hers to cut ties with him. 

One night, she was outside the police station, and pleaded the police offers via phone, to drive her home safely with the police vehicle.

What they answered? "Police vehicles are not taxis". And a few moments later, the police officer on the call, heard her screams. He killed her outside the police station. How tragically ironic..

Another one, about 2 weeks ago as long as I remember. A man and a woman were married, they had children. He was toxic and manipulative. When she realized -it was late- she attempted to get away from him. Similarly to the previous incident, he didn't accept this rejection. He didn't accept that a woman found the courage to reject him, and embark on a new life. The result was the same. He killed her. With 45 stabs. And if we consider that every stab takes up to one second, we could assume that he was killing her for 45 seconds. He was stabbing a human being for almost a minute. What could anyone say about his mind? How maniac can he be, to inflict this undescribable violence with so much hatred on the woman that beared his children?

It is scary, how men turn to unaliving a person, how they turn to do something so extreme and animalistic, so as to impose their sick instincts and ideas. 

Also this says a lot about humans as a whole, about the community. We talk about equality all the time, but still, there are men, in a country like Greece, that is considered developed, that possess beliefs that the world says that we have left behind. Because I strongly believe, that when a man is so obsessed with a woman, that he manipulates her so badly to a point that she believes that this is love, and then slowly and deviously he cuts her wings, he tries to impose himself with inflicting psychological and physical violence on her, that all this situation has its roots deeply in sexism. Extreme sexism. And now, we see the results of a chronical phenomenon that is based on hate. Pure hate. 

Also, we should think about how many of these women turnt to the police, to save themselves and how they ended up dead. Where is the police? The government? The law? Especially when Greece has witnessed so many women getting murdered for the exact same reason. And the psychopaths continue unbothered to do their harm. 

I'm genuinely scared. Because now I know that if I ever get involved with a man that posseses such ideas about women, and I haven't realized from the start, I might actually get myself killed. Because people now turn to murder, like we are mindless and uncivilized animals.

Men are subhuman, animals. I pray for liberation and safety for every single woman in Greece. May men get what's coming for them for their crimes, both in the justice system and from God. This is horrific, especially for a relatively small nation. It's a harsh reality that it's prevalent worldwide still. I remember hearing that in the 90's, women were just as likely to get murdered by their partner as they were 50 years ago, so it was referring to the 1940's. But I wouldn't be surprised if that stat is still accurate. Whether he's angry that she's too independent, too successful, too desirable, too opinionated or any number of things (sometimes even being angry at his own under-performance and lot in life which doesn't even involve her), it seems that a volatile man's jealousy continues to operate the same way all these years later. It makes me feel a bit better about being single as at least this isn't something I have to worry about but I still like to hold onto hope that the majority of men are not like this as I see plenty of women who are thriving with the love of their life. "It's not all men," is too often used as a phrase to shut things down and it's getting us nowhere. No, it's not all men but it's enough of them that it's a problem worth discussing and solving. A man's worst fear in a relationship is that a woman will cheat on him or convince him that a child is his. Our biggest fear is that they'll beat, rape and kill us.

Really tragic to see such violent acts happen in your country. Thank you for posting such a thing and raising awareness! Killing women just for taking revenge on the opposite sex must be talked differently from common murders. This is caused because of sexism! If they raise their boys right they will become good people without feeling the need to kill a woman just because she is a woman and they loathe her and envy her. But that is a big matter if society and if the big heads don’t care to do something first about it to raise the awareness of their people then the families will continue to raise violent sexist men!

Femicide is very common in Greece. The incident with Vasiliki in Kalamata was an overkill situation (the news talk about at least 45 stabbings). Overkill means that the murderer uses much more violence needed for a human being to die. This speaks everything. I am sharing here a website (click the link) that documents the femicides committed in Greece every year. I am hoping and wishing for the list to remain empty but it doesn't, because families don't educate their children about femicide, sexism, inequalities. They don't raise their kids to respect their fellow human beings and that no means fucking no. Greece went off rails years ago and this is one of the outcomes. It is femicide. Not just another homicide. People are getting murdered because of their sex and these men will be out in the streets in a few months after the public has forgotten all about it. We must not forget. Not a single one of them. We have to call it femicide. We have to recognize that these people lost their right to life because sexism and patriarchy are so embedded in people's heads that they have grown to conceive them as truth and natural.
