Hayden Panettiere passes at 36 - August 16th, 2026

Earlier today, actress and singer Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in Nashville, Heroes, Bring it On: All or Nothing, and Scream 4 & VI after beginning her career at just 11 months old, has sadly passed away at the age of 36. 
Her father Skip told ABC, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her -- and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

In her latest memoir This Is Me: A Reckoning released in May 2026, she shared her struggles with postpartum depression following a near-fatal birth, subsequent separation from her daughter, domestic violence, sexual assault, grooming as a child star, coping with the loss of her younger brother, alcoholism, addiction, and recovery. In 2019, she was hospitalised due to jaundice with near-liver failure caused by her alcohol and opioid addiction.

Further details of her passing are unknown at this time.

WTF?! Can’t believe it, so sad for her family as she has a young daughter and her younger brother passed away a couple of years ago. Loved her in “Raising Helen” and in “Ice Princess” (both stars from the film have died, Michelle Trachtenberg was her co-star).

this is absolutely heartbreaking... she just released her memoir this year, where she was so candid and open and honest about how the industry - and her parents - exploited her and messed with her brain ever since being a kid, and all the horrible trauma she had to endure both as a celebrity and as a human being in general  to be so brave and to publicly reckon with so much trauma must have been unbelievably difficult, but i'm so glad she got to see how overwhelmingly positive the public reception to her bravery was. after all the difficulties she endured - addiction issues, the loss of her friends and family, repeated domestic abuse and sexual assault - she seemed to be doing quite well recently. i did not expect this news at all. it would be sad anytime, but it's even sadder at this particular time.

 

allegedly she was travelling with her known abuser at the time of her passing. i'm not speculating on what may have happened, i simply want to say that he did not deserve the last few days of her life.

 

i thought she was brilliant in Heroes and Until Dawn, but she had the most impact on me as Kairi in the Kingdom Hearts series. i'll be forever grateful for the way she brought that role to life and how significant it's been for me throughout my lifetime <3
