Further I don't know if this is the right place for this info but I just stumbled upon sth really really interesting. Some austrian sites (maybe other too) reported about an interview of Lana with 'Grazia' in which she revealed that she was a member of a sect! Quick translation of one of those articles: The singer allegedly used to be dominated by a Guru. Since he wanted to "break" his girls she left the sect. US-singer Lana Del Rey has a past in a sect behind her. "I used to be a member of an underground sect which was reigned by a guru. He surrounded himself with young girls," she told the magazine Grazia. She as well couldn't resist his "insane charisma". She was longing for "love and safety" in this group. But the guru turned out to be a bad person. "He thought that he had to break people first to build them up again. At the end I quit the sect." Her addiction to alcohol which she had as a teenager is over as well adds the 27 year old. "For ten years I haven't touched a drink - but I'd somehow really like to." Macintosh Manhattan Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Since we know so little about Lana's past it's hard to decipher whether or not this is an white lie/exaggerated truth or the truth.I mean we all know Lana is a little bit quirky but THAT quirky...I doubt it. As someone stated here before she probably made it up for a laugh because everyone is going to wonder what the " And your might cult leader" lyric is about. There was some sort of blog entry (myspace?) in which she was talking about some sort of science it was like an appeal to the reader about some hidden truth or whatever and then she posted a link to a weird page, I can't really remember and I also can't seem to find it any more! Agnese13 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 This makes me love the whole thing more and more, seriously I just honestly feel like Lana tends to say a lot of things just in a playful, sarcastic way and then people are left with thinking God knows what and she enjoys it. Which makes me love her even more. When it comes to the lyrics itself, I just think it's very simple:''cult leader'' is just someone she looks up to in one way or another, that's about it. I mean, I don't know half as much about her/her songs etc. as many other people here do, but that's just how I see it. Although I don't know about the sect/cult thing, but I always wonder where does her faith in God come from, and all these things. Like, I just think it could be smth connected to how she quit drinking, because a lot of times those people do get involved into these so-called ''churches/sects'' (like the type of churches where people fall to the ground and where exorcisms are performed, and they like sing and do all that weird stuff) and that's how with ''God's help'' they quit the drinking. I mean, IDK, I might have just written the absolute nonsense, but it just somehow comes into my mind when I put things together. 3 Quote
