Just Cherry Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I can fly You had me caged up like a bird in midsummer You saw me waiting I was crazy on fire Waiting to fly I can fly I had bright wishes in the summer I was bathing in sunlight Painting in the garden Like a ghost in mid-July Running fast from something With my eyes wide like saucers Spinning in the sun I had a dream that I was fine I wasn't crazy I was divine I can fly You had me caged up like a bird in midsummer You saw me waiting I was crazy on fire Waiting to fly I can fly Your lies were hard kisses in the summer I was dreaming of a lake Dreaming of the water Where I'd rise like a Phoenix Or an iron from the fire I've got things to tell you Like I know that you're a liar I had a dream that I was fine I wasn't crazy I was divine I can fly You had me caged up like a bird in midsummer You saw me waiting I was crazy on fire Waiting to fly I can fly You words cut like a knife in butter I was fighting for my art Fighting with my lover You had me so tied up Thinking there's no other Yeah, right Yeah, right I can fly You had me caged up like a bird in midsummer You saw me waiting I was crazy on fire Waiting to fly I can fly She definitely has some more mature lyrics throughout this song, but still manages to incorporate some of what she's used to writing about. This and Big Eyes give off a lot of imagery and I really like it. 17 Quote
Wryta Thinkpiece Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 You lies were hard kisses in the summer, I was dreaming of a lake, Dreaming of the water, Where I'd rise like a Phoenix, Soaring high and from/soaring higher from the fire, I've got things to tell you, Like I know that you're a liar. It has to be something along the lines of that, since it makes sense with the common legend that phoenixes rebirth from their ashes, she's comparing rising out of the water like a phoenix would from ashes/flame. Such beautiful lyrics, I got strong Sucré vibes with this song. 0 Quote

Platinum Greenwich Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 And there's (mid-)July again. This bitch! EDIT: It's "midsummer", not "the summer". In the first verse, anyway. 1 Quote "Wild child, starry-eyed junkie, Coney Island Madonna, sick chanteuse and philosopher femme fatale... Lizzy Grant, ur everything"
AngelHeadedHipster Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 OMG THE VERSES OF 'I CAN FLY' SOUNDS LIKE 'MEET ME IN THE TOWER' BY OURS (JIMMY GNECCO) 0 Quote
Stardust Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I hear "eyes wide like saucers" not arms. 0 Quote Life is awesome, I confess. What I do, I do best.

neon palms sway Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Not crazy about the chorus, but the delivery in the verses is beautiful 1 Quote
StarryEyed Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 This song is already one of my favourites! Her voice, lyrics, everything is perfect And the outro, I just can't 1 Quote
lmdr Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Its chorus shares the same melody with Last Girl On Earth bridge 2 Quote
Guest Dot Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 The outro features the sound of children and thus blends perfectly into Bel Air. Young & Beautiful, I Can Fly, Bel Air, Old Money are the "Mid-July"-quadruple. In Y&B she talks about the future and how she thinks it will be. I Can Fly is in the present but an earlier present than Bel Air which is the immediate present. Old Money is her future self reminiscing about the past. 9 Quote

Auto-Tuned Loon Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I CAN FLY I'm so vain I probably think this song is about me. #LOONALYSIS I can fly, You had me caged up like a bird CALLED IT, SLUTS! 2 Quote A bad sample, repeated often with unwarranted glee.
Just Cherry Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Almost sounds like she says endless summer in the chorus. 1 Quote
